Percy Jackson book fans have been waiting for us to get past the second book curse set up by the 2010s films. We are finally getting Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 – The Titan’s Curse. This week is D23, Disney’s own event for announcements and trailer drops. The PJO team did not disappoint and dropped the Titan’s Curse trailer.

The Great Prophecy

Immediately, Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) reminds us of the ‘Great Prophecy’ which we learned of in Season 2, that alludes to Percy being at the center of the fall of Olympus. And a reintroduction to Percy’s prophetic dreams, another symptom of being a child of the Gods. Cursed to have nightmares and dreams that haunt them of what they will encounter, or sent as a warning. Depends on how you look at them.

Who is here? Returning and New Cast Members

We’re flashed through friends, foes and monsters we will encounter on this adventure. Though suspiciously missing Annabeth (Leah Sava-Jefferies) and no one, not even the Gods know where she is. Returning is Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) obviously, Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri), Thalia Grace (Tamara Smart), and the introduction of the long awaited Di Angelo children, Olive Abercrombie as Bianca and Levi Chrisopulos as Nico.

The Hunters

This season we will be introduced to the Hunters of Artemis. While we get no glimpse of Artemis in the trailer we do see her second in command Zoe Nightshade (Saara Chaudry). The Hunters of Artemis are like the roman Amazons, a group of female warriors who protect women and nature. They’re keeping Dafne Keen as Artemis a secret for when the season premiers. Overall, I’m excited to see the hunters and it looks like they’re getting their sparkly silver jackets from the book!

Look at the Gods

Two shots into this trailer and we get a glimpse at Olympus and our first look at Hera, Queen of Olympus played by Mind-Na Wen. A casting the goddess herself would be obsessed with. Next to her is Courtney B. Vance returning as Zeus on the central throne, and then Toby Stephens as Poseidon. We get our first look later in the trailer of Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love, Percabeth fans you may now scream that we might get THAT scene. Also, returning is Adam Copeland (The Edge) as Ares, God of War – seen here in the trailer facing off with his little sister (technically) Thalia. I think everyone is Grover in this moment – yikes.

Introducing Aphrodite

I have to talk more about Aphrodite. Fans of the books know that she is a major string puller in Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the Heroes of Olympus series. Aphrodite (Kate McKinnon) begins as a voice-over describing how love can start and end wars – while talking we see dramatic shots of Percy and Annabeth. While Kate McKinnon might not be how we imagined the goddess of love back in 2007 when the Titan’s Curse released. She is the perfect casting for 2026. The dark red suit and soft pinks in her carriage not the mention the rose-tinted gaze with a cheeky smile. McKinnon is our Aphrodite and she’s nailed the excitable but devious fan-girl we know Aphrodite to be. Fans in the know – I hope we get THAT moment too.

Kronos’s Army and the Titans

Atlas, the titan cursed by the Gods to hold the weight of the world on his shoulders. Not only do we see him holding the globe at the beginning of the trailer, we get a glimpse of Atlas, played by Holt McCallany with white hair and golden armor. Luke Castellan (Charlie Bushnell) is only glimpsed as holding the world, hopefully we will get to see more of him. With the cast suggesting during the SDCC panel that we continue to get the story from outside of Percy’s perspective, I expect we will.

Set Pieces

Once again the Percy Jackson & the Olympians set team have out done themselves. We thought the chariot race from Season 2 couldn’t be beaten HOLD YOUR HORSES because the Junkyard set piece looks incredible. I assume from the trailer they built the whole thing. There was also talk on the SDCC panel that the camp houses and sets were updated for this season. Everything has been levelled up and the sets show us that this team behind the scenes is so unbelievably talented too. Olympus looking grey with cracked stone work, feels perfect for the gods on the brink of war.

Conclusion

The excitement I feel as a fan of the books, who had a fan account in 2010, runs so deep. This book is a huge turn in the series and when the stories begin to age with the characters. I’m so looking forward to watching this season even though I know where our characters are headed.
