  1. Subnautica 2 – Released in early access on May 14, this game sold over one million copies within the first hour of its release and has had hundreds of thousands of concurrent players ever since. Subnautica 2 is the third major game in the franchise and boasts amazing graphics, new stories and creatures to discover, and expands of the systems and mechanics of the previous two games. The premise is a pioneer ship from earth crash lands on an aquatic planet, and the players are the surviving crew members of that ship. They must work to explore and gather resources to repair their ship, survive the harsh waters, and conquer the planet to make it livable for more humans.
  2. Windrose – Released in early access on April 14, Windrose was made by a team of 15 developers and has sold over 2 million copies since release. Merging the survival game genre with pirate naval combat is no easy feat, but this game has achieved just that. Perhaps one of the best pirate games on the market, players are the captain of pirate crew in the west Indies until Blackbeard overwhelms his ship. The player must rebuild his ship and crew, navigate the dozens of hostile islands, and defeat countless enemies to work toward the goal of taking down the king of the pirates Blackbeard.
  3. Palworld – Released in 2024, Palworld is rumored to be exiting its early release status into fully released status in 2026 after being one of the most successful survival games ever. The Palworld developers have been quiet as of late with no new content updates to the game, giving players the sense that something massive is coming. In the truest sense of the world, Palworld is very much a sandbox game, meaning players set their own goals without a hard-set story that players must follow to progress. The rough story is that evil organizations are abusing the creatures (pals) of the world for their own gain, so the player must tame pals of their own, farm resources and build a base, and take down the organizations’ bosses to stop their cruel practices.
  4. Enshrouded – Released in 2024, Enshrouded developers have announced the full release of this game in late 2026. It is not as popular as the previous three games but Enshrouded has had several massive updates that makes it the game with the most content on this list. As the story goes, the world is slowly being corrupted, and this corruption is creating undead and monsters alike. The player must build up their gear and base, explore the world to discover powerful magic and weapons, and purify the corruption stop the hordes of undead and monsters.
  5. RuneScape: Dragonwilds – Released in 2025, Dragonwilds is set to become fully-released in 2026, but developers could still push that back to 2027. Notably, this game is created by the developers behind all the RuneScape games, Old School RuneScape (OSRS) being one of the most popular MMOs ever and still supporting hundreds of thousands of players. Dragonwilds follows a similar story to the RuneScape games but is a survival game rather than an MMO. In Dragonwilds, a powerful rampaging dragon is terrorizing the surrounding lands. The player must build up power by exploring the world and gathering resources to take down the dragon and free the land from its tyranny.

Honorable mention to Hytale that came out in February 2026. It had a massive release but has since gone quiet. Many players are hoping for massive release of new content coming later this year.
