How is it September already? I swear it was June five minutes ago! Another week has absolutely rattled by, and we’ve had a departure and an arrival on Ramsay Street, plus a whole host of other things that we should get on with rounding up.

Aaron Covers For Holly and Andrew

The cliffhanger at the end of last week was Wendy walking in on Holly, Andrew and Aaron talking about Holly and Andrew’s affair. I felt sure Aaron was going to spill some major tea before he and Rhett peaced out of Erinsborough, but instead he caves and covers for them. Afterwards, he says he did it for Wendy, which is a cop out if you ask me. Wendy isn’t going to thank him when she finds out he knew and didn’t tell her. Because she will find out. But I guess it isn’t Aaron’s problem any more.

Holly and Andrew have been trying to avoid each other, but they seem unable to stop staring at each other creepily every time they’re in public together, which is all the time because they live in the same street and work in the same complex. How has nobody other than Aaron noticed the way they gawk at each other yet?

Holly is blowing very cold with Max (more on that in a second), but Andrew is at least attempting to pretend he’s still into his wife, even if he does encounter some performance issues when they go home early from the pub for “dessert.” Eventually he can’t stay away from Holly any longer, and he goes over to see her. The two of them stand in the middle of the open plan kitchen-diner, kissing, where absolutely anyone could walk through the door and catch them in the act – and we all know that nobody ever knocks in Erinsborough. It’s like they’re wanting to get found out. I hope it happens soon because I am SO DONE with this storyline.

Someone Needs to Report Holly To The RSPCA

Poor Max is utterly besotted with Holly, and going out of his way to be the best boyfriend, but all Holly can do is look at him like he’s an over-enthusiastic puppy humping her leg. And stretching that analogy, she should be reported to the RSPCA (or the Aussie equivalent) for the way she’s treating Max at the moment. There’s no other way to describe it – it’s cruel.

She might not want her affair with Andrew to be common knowledge, but if she’s not into being with Max any more then she should make a clean break and stop stringing him along. She’s acting cold and indifferent towards him and he has no idea why, and all he wants to do is please her and make her happy. Of all the things Holly has done lately, the way she’s treating Max is the worst. And don’t think I’m not mad with Andrew as well – the way he’s got Wendy thinking their marriage is in the best shape it’s ever been is also cruel.

Holly and Andrew both need to get in the bin.

Aaron Leaves Aaronsborough

In a characteristically quick Neighbours departure, Aaron decided that he was leaving to go to Adelaide a matter of days ago, and now off he goes. There’s the obligatory farewell party in the middle of the street and then Paul gets up and delivers a speech that even made me well up with tears, which is most irregular. But then Aaron properly finished the job with his speech, and an actual tear left my eyeball.

Aaron will be missed. He’s been a likeable character for many years, and has had some huge, dramatic storylines, plus plenty of silly, comedy ones too. As we head towards the end of our beloved soap (again), I like the thought of Aaron off living his best life with Rhett in Adelaide – I’m glad he got a happy ending.

But, it was incredibly weird and inappropriate to do a body roll against Paul when he mentioned Aaron’s dancing career, and it’s now all I can think about when I think of Aaron, so the happy ending is slightly ruined for me.

Elle is Back

Elle is back and she’s an entirely different woman after living in New York for so long. No, really – she’s an entirely different woman.

She’s not different personality-wise though, because she wastes no time starting a war with Terese. There’s still tension between them because of Elle’s attempt to get Paul not to marry her, but Terese attempts to bury the hatchet and move on for the sake of family harmony. But then she gets whiff of something not adding up about Elle’s rapid departure from New York, and when she finds out Elle was fired from her job rather than resigning, she cannot wait to let slip and then crow about it in front of everyone.

Elle is enraged that her lie has been uncovered so quickly, so when she hears that Terese is considering selling Eirini and putting Susan out of a job, she goes straight to Susan to tell her. Terese manages to smooth everything out with Susan and chooses not to tell Paul about Elle’s antics, but the truce between Elle and Terese is delicate and I can’t see it lasting for long. Elle is going to cause TROUBLE.

Nell Dumps JJ

Nell comes back from Collac with Toadie in tow to give her some support as she navigates the tricky territory of dumping JJ. Poor JJ is totally blindsided by this, and goes home to lick his wounds.

Now Nell has done nothing wrong, in fact she handles the actual dumping better than a lot of adults would – doing it face to face and trying to be as gentle as possible with JJ. However, she immediately turns into a weird, guilt-ridden, pushy helicopter ex – constantly trying to check on JJ and make sure he’s OK. She wants them to be friends straight away and she also doesn’t want him to be sad, but Toadie tells her she needs to cool her boots. JJ needs some time to be sad, to cry and to wallow and do all the things you do when you’ve had your heart broken. He’s not at the stage where he’ll be able to watch movies with Nell just yet.

Are we seeing the start of Nell’s exit strategy? After breaking up with JJ is she going to decide to go back to Collac with Toadie? I have a feeling that’s where she’ll be headed before long.

Sadie and Taye Might Be Back On

Taye is still keen on Sadie, and it seems she might be starting to have second thoughts about ending their friends with benefits arrangement. Taye is keen to spend time with her, but Sadie keeps fobbing him off because he’s being a bit too keen, so Taye books himself into the spa to force Sadie to spend time with him.

I’m really glad this storyline went where it did and not where I thought it was going. It’s just not cute for Taye to force Sadie into massaging him, they have history and it’s deeply weird and inappropriate for Taye to bring that history into her workplace.

Thankfully, Sadie can look after herself, and she pulls a classy and hilarious move by getting a very enthusiastic European man to give Taye the pummelling of his life instead of her doing it. I think it’s only a matter of time before these two are back together, but it needs to be on more of a level playing field, rather than Taye trying to force Sadie to touch all of his bits and bobs in a professional capacity.

Who Is This Random Coffee Beans Guy?

It often sails right over my head when Neighbours features some random Australian celebrity or other, but I can’t even decide if that’s what happened this week or not. There’s an elderly man, who Vera and Moira take an immediate shine to, who buys a unit at Eirini, and everyone keeps banging on about coffee beans whenever they’re around him. I gather that he did a coffee advert at one point or another, but couldn’t figure out if said coffee advert was real or fictional. I don’t care enough to Google it either, so I will probably never know.

A Few Random Notes

As usual, here are a few random notes I took while watching Neighbours this week:

  • Why is Nell staring at a breadstick?
  • Why is Terese wearing a top made out of a pink Muppet?
  • Terese referring to Elle’s ex-wives stunt as the “Henry VIII thing” 😂
  • I loved Nicolette going at Jane with a fake microphone for her lecture.
  • If Taye just wants to be friends with Sadie, he might want to stop doing his soft, seductive voice.
  • Ugh. Colton is back. Has he brought better clothes with him?
  • So that’s it? They get an email about the Bronze Bell and then it’s just in the post? After all that trouble?
  • Wendy, why on earth would you invite yourself on someone else’s date? Especially right as they’re about to kiss each other. Wendy is SO WEIRD, and her recent obsession with Holly is so strange.
  • Max, no. Couples feeding each other in public is gross and I hate it.
