Minecraft mods have long been a huge part of the Minecraft community. They mix up the gameplay loop of Minecraft as a base game, while also adding fun interactions with new mobs, mechanics, and materials. The most popular modpack ever, RLCraft, has nearly 24 million downloads on Curseforge, making it more popular than most AAA games. In late 2024, the creators of RLCraft, Shivaxi and NLBlackeagle, released a new and improved version of his modpack called “RLCraft Dregora,” which has all the same features as the old RLCraft, but also has several other surprises mixed in with it. If you are looking for a way to mix up your Minecraft experience or just a genuine gaming challenge, look no further than RLCraft Dregora.

RLCraft stands for Real Life Craft, but in a world where all the mythological monsters exist, and everything done in the world has the added risk of death. The real-life part starts right at the beginning of game when players realize that they can no longer just punch trees to get wood and start mining. Instead, there are several different ways to get started but there is a heavy incentive for exploring the world. With hundreds of unique pre-generated buildings and structures, there is no shortage of things to explore and items to find. However, anything and everything has the potential to cause death, so while exploring is the fastest way to progress, it is also exceedingly dangerous.

To add insult to injury, much of the gear found through exploration cannot be used right off the bat. There is an experience and leveling system that players use to just be able to start using the most basic tools and weapons. As players use this leveling system more, they can use higher quality materials and items. This adds a much more drawn-out progression process to Minecraft that is much more rewarding once experience and level thresholds are met.

If only players were the only things leveling up though, monsters also have levels and as players spend more time in their world, all monsters around them are also leveling up and becoming more difficult to defeat. Speaking of monsters, there are dozens of new monsters and creatures, most of which are, of course, deadly. Once a player has encountered a monster, they begin learning about it, allowing them to deal more damage to it and even summon the monsters to help against other monsters in the future.

Some of the core mechanics of the game include player health, temperature, and thirst being added on top of the hunger mechanic already in base Minecraft. Player health is distributed between body parts, so if player loses all their health in their legs, they move significantly slow; or if they get show in the head by an arrow, the player instantly dies. Health also does not regenerate like in regular Minecraft – players must use bandage, rest, or use magic to heal themselves.

Temperature is self-explanatory – a desert will be very hot and give a player hyperthermia, while being in an icy river will give them hypothermia; therefore, maintaining temperature is another thing players must worry about. Lastly, players now become thirsty in game. Drinking water from a lake around the world works but could leave the players even more thirsty than before and even give them parasites. Purifying water is the best way to maintain this mechanic, but how to do it is up to the player to find out.

All of these mechanics, monsters, and structures just barely scratches the surface of what RLCraft Dregora has to offer. Hundreds of new tools and weapons, new worlds like the Nether, taming dangerous creatures, and much more are all part of thing epic mudpack. So, can you conquer RLCraft Dregora?
