I am noticing a trend in indie simulation games that I can support. Many indie developers are listening to players who say they want more coop experiences. I have been vocal about purchasing more than one game copy if I can play with a family member or friends. This is especially true in the realm of cozy games. Sometimes, I just want to farm and forage with my spouse. With how hectic life has been, it is nice to zone out and complete my virtual daily tasks. Therefore, I am excited to share this title I found on Steam, Luma Island. So, without further ado, let’s get into it.

The Story of Luma Island
Players will travel to Luma Island and set up their old caravan before starting their new adventure. As you work towards creating a bigger and better homestead, they will also complete quests all over the island. Players will soon realize they are not alone on the island. There will be locals to help, as well as spooky critters. From towns to ancient temples, there are a wide variety of environments to explore. Who knows what you might find?

Thoughts on Luma Island
The graphics first drew me to Luma Island. I am always on the hunt for something cute and pleasing to the eye. Typically, my eye loves a good pixelated title; however, when I saw this game, I was transported to 2007. The graphics remind me of MySims, and I knew I had to download it immediately.
After a quick download, I was sent to the character creator screen. This was much more detailed than I had anticipated but still simple. I enjoy a less detailed character creator in cozy games like this because I typically look at something other than my character. So, I made my adventurer named Paige and was off to the races.
Luma Island has two game modes, Cozy and Hero. I decided for a demo, the Cozy mode would help me get acquainted with the controls. After choosing my playstyle came the tutorial. This was pretty straightforward, as most actions were point-and-click. Controls like these are perfect for players new to the genre or those looking for a relaxed gaming experience.
Overall, I had a wonderful time playing the Luma Island demo. The one thing I did not enjoy was resource gathering. If I chopped down a Farm Tree, I would receive one Farm Wood. I always feel that this is kind of silly; a tree would likely drop more than one wood. However, aside from that, it was a great game to just chill and complete my digital tasks. Ultimately, I highly recommend this title to anyone looking for a relaxing experience.
Odds & Ends
Luma Island currently has a demo available on Steam. It also has a release date of November 20, 2024. So, if you are looking for a game to play over the upcoming holiday, this would be a great one to dive into. If you want more coop gaming experiences, I recommend the Core Keeper article. That title was fully released this past summer, and I highly recommend it. Overall, I enjoyed both games, and I hope you do too.
