This was the best episode of this season so far, which is not a high bar to clear but it is nice to see. We start this episode right where the previous one ended, with Genet’s soldiers getting ready to gun down all the prisoners, but not by shooting them in the head. After that the soldiers quickly go and injects them with the poison, Carol knew what was happening and faked being shot and quickly pulled her needle out of her arm. It takes perhaps 30 seconds for the bodies to start turning, a couple of them notice that Carol is alive so she pops up and “runs”, I use that term loosely, to the buggy that Cadrone was tied to as bait and tosses the driver out and they escape with the running walkers close behind.
The pair make it inside the Nest thanks to a missile from Genet’s group. The walkers make it inside as well, Carol gets far enough to take Cadrone off the buggy, he tells Carol to tell Daryl that he did it for the boy, and Cadrone goes to fight off walkers to Carol can keep going. Losang tries to get information out of Isabelle on Laurent’s whereabouts but she keeps firm that she doesn’t know anything. She waits for an opening and takes a swipe at him with some sort of sharp object and hits his face, he gets upset and stabs Isabelle in the stomach.
Losang and his other followers run off leaving Isabelle on her own. She limps her way outside and comes across a walker but Carol is there to take it out. The two interact and Isabelle realizes that Carol is here from America looking for Daryl. A youngster runs from walkers and ends up in Daryl’s cell, he lets Daryl go so he can fight the walkers. In the melee Daryl and Carol end up face to face and have an emotional moment. Carol takes Daryl to Isabelle and they have some moments before Isabelle passes away.
Carol wants to get back to Paris to leave back to America but Daryl won’t leave without Laurent. Meanwhile Losang and his group are captured by Genet. Daryl goes to the cave that Laurent and Fallou were hiding at but they missed them so Daryl starts tracking them. He comes across a house with loud music and they break inside to find an older couple eating, but they said that Laurent told them they would be coming. The couple tells them that they were here but were heading back to Paris and they gave them a car. Daryl and Carol take a day to try to get another car running but the old guy rats them out to Genet’s soldiers and he has them at gunpoint to turn them in. The lady isn’t a part of the plan and lets them try to hide while the soldiers look for them. Carol is eventually cornered in the house until Daryl comes from behind and Genet is stuck between them. Carol gets one of the poison darts and shoots Genet with it who dies a quick violent death. During the melee the older lady passes away so the old timer has to live with his horrible decision along with being the only person left in the village.
Genet’s #2 now leads her group, she tells Losang that Genet is dead, but that neither of them were correct in their vision and they need to merge their ideals. Losang buys in so he can get out of the chains, he talks to his group and says that everything is forgiven, they will merge ideals and Laurent will lead the way and they need to find him.
