One of HBO’s TV series, adapted from an extremely popular video game, is coming back in Season 2 in 2025. The Last of Us Season 2, a show inspired by Naughty Dog’s masterpiece, is heading back to homes with tons of surprises, bringing back beloved characters alongside introducing new stars.
According to the latest news , the next chapter of the popular series, previously announced by the company, is eventually setting an official release date in the first half of 2025. Presumably, it will be published by May, while the Emmy window is still open. Fans of the show are now counting down the days to once again be amazed by what HBO is cooking.
Right after the release of the first two episodes of the Season 1, the show announced its extension to the next section. As fans of the original TLOU game had been shocked by the extraordinary storyline and character design, they expected to see even more in the TV show, and what Neil Druckmann, the director of both the game and the show, delivered was beyond their expectations. Being nominated in 24 Emmy categories and winning 8 awards is what fans hope to see again. Check out our full review of Season 1.
Who Are the Cast?
Apart from Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie), who dominated the first season with their magnificent acting, the following stars have so far been confirmed to be part of Season 2: Gabriel Luna (Tommy), Rutina Wesley (Maria), Isabela Merced (Dina), Young Mazino (Jesse), Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Danny Ramirez (Manny), Ariela Barer (Mel), Spencer Lord (Owen), Tati Gabrielle (Nora), Jeffrey Wright, who also voiced his character in the game (Isaac), and Catherine O’Hara (a mysterious character).
Season 1 also featured Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, the two who played the roles of Joel and Ellie in the game, respectively. That was an interesting surprise from Neil Druckmann, revealing his loyalty to his beloved actors. It would be another surprise if he brings back Laura Bailey, as her portrayal of Abby won her the Best Performer in a Leading Role at the BAFTA Games Award in 2021 and the Best Performance at The Game Awards 2020.
What to Expect to Happen in The Last of Us Season 2
The Last of Us Season 2 continues the incredible tale of Joel and Ellie, surviving in a dangerous, zombie-infested world where humans pose an even greater threat. After the intense events between Joel and the Fireflies, where he took Ellie back to the Jackson city, time has passed. Ellie is now 19 years old enjoying her new life, but something is about to cause misery.
What fans watched in the previous season will likely be echoed in the next chapter. Season 1 introduced all the features and elements the actual game had presented, such as the characters and the infected, and they even went into more details, dedicating specific episodes to side characters, for example, Bill’s life, which wasn’t elaborated on in the game. The results were very positive as Nick Offerman, who played Bill, won the Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series at the Emmy Awards 2023.
Looking at the cast, it’s easy to say that there will be some variations in the TV show compared to the game. However, one particular uncertainty is whether Lev and Yara will have roles in the show, as there is no information yet about their casting, despite them being essential to Abby’s story.
Moreover, The Last of Us Part II brought two new types of infected: the Shambler and the atrocious Rat King, which makes it a lot more exciting to anticipate how they will be demonstrated in the TV show and how the main characters are going to battle them.
