Sony Pictures’s new trailer hit the race track on July 20, 2023. It is based on the true story of a kid gamer with big dreams of becoming a racecar driver.
Nissan Playstation 5 Academy put on a contest for the best Gran Turismo players in the world to win a seat racing behind an actual F1 car. But the guys already racing the 200mph cars are elite athletes, not some gamers sitting on the couch all day. The men putting on the competition are tasked with training these gamers to prepare for G forces twice what astronauts experience before liftoff, emotional and mental resilience, and a 140ºf cockpit.
When gamers crash on a course, it’s easy to hit the restart button, whereas during an actual race, they could die.

Neill Blomkamp directs Gran Turismo and stars Orlando Bloom, David Harbour, Archie Madekwe, Geri Horner, Djimon Hounsou, and many more. The movie will hit theaters in the USA on August 25, 2023.

Who is this movie based on?
Young racer Jann Mardenborough inspired the Gran Turismo film. Like many young kids, Mardenborough became obsessed with cars and cast out big dreams of becoming a driver. As he got older, he began to learn and realize how expensive it was to race and beat great odds to become successful.
Mardenborough used gaming as an outlet for his passion for the sport and never really let go of his dreams.
Nissan created the competition for PlayStation racers to generate excitement in the sport and sell more cars. In 2011, Mardenborough competed against approximately 100,000 gamers as his last hope to make his dreams become a reality. After winning the same competition as in the movie, the barely believable plot led him to finish on the podium in multiple races of his career.
