Back in 2021, I wrote an article about the Borderlands movie. Since then, we have not gotten a whole lot of news. Unfortunately, we have only seen one image and a cast list. However, during the 2023 San Deigo Comic Con, we got a little more than expected. We have a movie release date and a unique collaboration with Genvid Entertainment. Without further ado, let’s get into it.

EchoVision Live
Borderlands EchoVision Live is a collaboration between Gearbox and Genvid Entertainment. Genvid Entertainment markets its product as a cross between a video game and a TV show. They make MILEs or Massively Interactive Live Events. According to Genvid Technologies, these are cloud-based, engaging, live broadcast events allowing audiences to interact with the screened content. This sounds like a choose-your-own-adventure scenario but with more than one individual making the choices. Without a doubt, it could be fun, but what is the story behind it all?
Eight wannabe Vault Hunters decided to take a three-week vacation on Eden-6. What was supposed to be a fun “Adventure Safari” turned into being stranded in the town of Greywater Junction. With bandits surrounding the town, these misfits must overcome their own egos and band together. Plus, they must dodge some bullets and send a couple toward their enemies. Overall, it seems like a fun take on the already beloved series.
Thoughts
In conclusion, concerning the Borderlands movie, I am optimistic but apprehensive. The cast seems fantastic and has a lot of star power. Bobby Lee playing a character named Larry, does feel out of place. Rumor has it that this character is a Psycho, but I think it deserves a better name. I vote Leiberman as his new name. This is a fun callback, and who doesn’t love a callback?
Additionally, EchoVision Live has potential. It sounds similar to Tales from the Borderlands, where decisions have consequences. This would allow players that prefer more narrative games to enjoy the franchise. Genvid Entertainment has created MILEs such as DC Heroes United and SILENT HILL: Ascension is due later this year. I have signed up for updates regarding EchoVision Live, and I cannot wait to share what I learn. Ultimately, SDCC brought us some interesting Borderlands news, and I am excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for us.
