Did you know that the original name for Pac-Man was Puck Man? Unless you’re Scott Pilgrim or my mother, who never played video games with the exception of Pac-Man and Mrs. Pac-Man, then I have a list of quick facts for you? We all have heard or seen this legendary arcade game at least once in our lives, so let’s go over some quick facts about the game that you probably never knew about.
1. The creator of Pac-Man was Toru Iwatani. He was just 24 years old when he invented the iconic video game character because nobody likes you when you’re 23.
2. The release of the first Pac-Man game was on May 22, 1980. As of 2023, 43-year-old Pac-Man will have been around for more than four decades. Can you believe it?
3. The original name for Pac-Man was Puck-Man. Yes, Scott Pilgrim was right on the money with that one because, in Japanese, the word “paku paku” means to flap your mouth. But due to immature children possibly changing the “P” in paku paku to an “F,” well, you get the idea why.
4. The ghosts in the game also have names. The red ghost is Blinky, the pink ghost is Pinky (no surprises there), and the orange ghost is Clyde.
5. Ms. Pac-Mac is considered Pac-Man’s wife, so don’t let the “Ms” fool you into thinking they’re divorced.
6. The first person to claim a perfect Pac-Man score was Billy Mitchell, with 3,333,360 points, but he was caught cheating, and the title was handed down to another gentleman named David Race.
I have a long list of books to read but I tend to spend my time daydreaming about where I'll travel next. While I wait, I spend most of my time riding around on my Harley getting coffee or ranking up in Magic The Gathering Arena.
