Chances are that if you’ve been on the internet, you’ve seen snippets of the new Mario movie – whether in the form of the new poster or screenshots taken from the trailer. But just in case, here’s everything you may have missed.

The start of the trailer is nothing short of dramatic. We see Bowser, voiced by Jack Black, and his army approaching the Snow Kingdom. After a fierce display of Bowser’s power, he easily breaks through to claim the star. After that comes the classic Mario melody everyone knows.

The screen is then filled with color as Mario, voiced by Chris Pratt, is thrown from a pipe. Mario looks around this strange new world to be met with Toad, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, who takes Mario toward the Mushroom Kingdom where, we can imagine, the rest of the film will be taking place.

After a screen announcing more of the all-star cast, including Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Seth Rogen, viewers are then greeted by another scene. This one involves Luigi frantically running from a horde of Drybones and placing his back against the door to block it. Many have concluded that this hints at the Luigi’s Mansion series being included in the movie.

What Other Things Do We Know?

Though not in the trailer, we know some things. For example, Charlie Day will be the voice of Luigi, and Anya-Taylor Joy will be the voice of Princess Peach. Something else we know from the cast list is the Donkey Kong franchise will also be making an appearance in the film. Seth Rogen will be the voice for Donkey Kong, and Fred Armisen will be Cranky Kong.

Nintendo was reluctant to let this movie be made, given the questionable reception of the 1993 Super Mario Bros. adaptation. However, rumors have started about a possible Donkey Kong film depending on this success. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to be released in 2023.
