If you missed my article on Osiris, you can find it here.
Poseidon is the god of the ocean and seas, earthquakes, storms, and out of nowhere, horses. His Roman counterpart is Neptune. He is violent, moody, and easily angered. He is said to be the creator of horses. He is also known as “The Leader of Nymphs” and the “Savior of Sailors”. He is one of the twelve Olympian gods, along with Zeus, Hera, Hermes, Ares, Aphrodite, Dionysus, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, and Hephaestus.
Poseidon’s father is Cronus, the leader of the Titans. His mother is Rhea, a mother goddess and Titaness. His siblings are Hades, Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Zeus, and Chiron. He was a bit of a player like his brother Zeus. His consorts are Amphitrite, Aphrodite, Demeter, and many others. His children were plentiful too. Some of them are Theseus, Triton (the little mermaid’s father in the stories), Orion (as in the constellation), Pegasus, and Atlas (the one holding the world).
Poseidon splits his time between the waters and Olympus. His symbols are, of course, the trident, fish, dolphins (duh), horses, and bulls. I know he is often depicted as a man with a trident, but I still usually picture him more like Disney’s Triton in their The Little Mermaid movie. He has dense, dark curly hair and piercing eyes. He can also be found being pulled in a chariot by four horses.
Poseidon has beef with everyone. He and Odysseus had problems. He had issues with Zeus and tried to overthrow him. He and Athena have had problems. Poseidon was pissed at Minos, so he messed with Minos’ wife, making the Minotaur. Finally, because the Trojan king, King Laomedon refused to pay him, Poseidon sided with the Greeks in the Trojan war. These are just a few.
As I said earlier, Poseidon is a player. He begged Amphitrite to marry him, and even though she did, he had a wandering eye. He didn’t accept any answer than yes. Force was on the table, such as with Medusa and Demeter. He also had Arion, Aethra, and many others.
He does do a few nice things. He is a protector of those faring the waters. He created horses and tamed them as well. He could calm a storm and stop an earthquake. I am guessing if you can start it, you should be able to stop it. I wouldn’t want to piss him off, though. Given his short fuse, do you think that makes him a good choice for a fighter? Have you played Poseidon in Smite? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time, have fun storming the castle!

Smite has been the longest game I’ve played and STILL play till this day, thank you hi rez for making it.
It’s hard to beleive how good artemis looks after all these years. It’s amazing how the art improved noticeably in 2016 and 2019. I hope Smite lives for years and keeps getting better and better!
It’s hard to believe how good Artemis looks after so many years. It’s incredible how the art improved significantly from 2016 and 2019.
