We have all seen the memes and criticisms of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. However, I am here today to say that I think it looks great. Sure, a druid technically cannot turn into an owlbear. Most people would also not want to jump into a Gelatinous Cube either. However, I know in the game I run, the Rule of Cool is one of my favorite house rules. That is the lens I choose to view this movie, and I encourage others to do the same.

The Story
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is based on the popular role-playing game D&D. Presumably set in the Forgotten Realms, a charming thief and his crew of misfit adventurers band together to take on the best D&D adventure, a heist! On their quest to retrieve a lost relic, things run amuck when the team puts their trust in the wrong people. Overall, this story sounds promising and has the potential to make a great movie regardless of the D&D branding.
Thoughts
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set for a theatrical release on March 3rd, 2022. After watching the trailer, I plan to be there on opening day as someone who does not frequent the movie theater. D&D is supposed to be about having a good time with friends and telling a story. Do rules really matter in the realm of make-believe? At my table, rules can be broken in favor of something genuinely badass happening. So, with that in mind, let’s cast aside the rules for a moment and hopefully enjoy something beautiful. If you want to learn more about the game of D&D, head on over to witchybop’s article on the subject.
