As we all know this weekend was San Diego Comic Con, one of the biggest conventions around with lots of announcements and panels. While obviously big-name properties like DC and Marvel got lots of coverage there was also room for other properties to shine like the animated prequel series to the cult classic 1984 film Gremlin and it’s 1990 sequel: Secrets of the Mogwai which will premiere on HBO Max and Cartoon Network next year. Here are a couple things we learned about Secrets of the Mogwai from the SDCC panel on Friday.
Zack Galligan returns to the franchise:
Zack Galligan who played Billy Peltzer in the original 1984 Gremlins movie and it’s sequel made a surprise appearance at the Secrets of the Mogwai panel to announce he will be voicing a recurring role in the animated prequel series. No details were given on his role, but given the series takes place in 1920s Shanghai it won’t be reprising his role as Billy.
Randall Park joins the cast:
Actor Randall Park(Fresh off the Boat, Wandavision) recorded a quick video announcing he will join the cast as well. He will also be joined by Sandra Oh, Bowen Yang and George Takei as well as the previously announced Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong, and Izaac Wang
The series will be released next year
Originally planned for a release this year it looks like we will have to wait a little bit longer for the further adventures of Gizmo. No official date has been given
That’s your quick update on Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai from SDCC 2022.
