As I have previously noted, I adore finding games I can play with my partner. In a world where most developers have left couch co-op games behind, I do not mind buying two copies of a quality game. This was especially true with Icarus. However, after browsing the Steam Summer Sale, I found The Survivalists, and we have had difficulty putting it down.

The Story
Set in The Escapists universe, players find themselves stranded on a seemingly deserted island. Up to four players must trade, craft, and work together to survive the adventure. During your time on the island, you will even find little monkey pals! These monkeys can be trained to craft, build, gather resources, or fight. You may find hidden treasures, secrets, and ruins on your travels. Additionally, there are creatures and mythical beings that would wish you harm. So, arm yourselves and get ready to survive in The Survivalists.
Thoughts
As soon as I knew I could make friends with monkeys, I knew this game was for me. It was simply a bonus that my partner and I could play together. Something about a charming, pixelated game draws me in, and this was no different. The game’s mechanics are intuitive and easy to follow, and the crafting system is not overwhelming. Although, I will admit it can be challenging to craft something independently when you have taught a few monkeys these skills.
Exploration is a big part of the experience and has been a delight. Coming from playing Valheim, learning to steer the raft was a bit of a learning curve. However, this was quickly remedied with some practice. Honestly, I do not see many negatives with this title. While it is fun to play with a pal, I feel it would be just as rewarding alone. The first replenishing is quite scary, especially if your base is not well made. Overall, I have had a blast playing The Survivalists, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new survival game.
