School is either out or about to be out for students all over the country, which signals summer for everyone. Warmer weather also means everyone is antsy to do something. At least those of us in the Northern hemisphere. Those in the Southern hemisphere are currently experiencing the colder part of the year. Conventions are always a blast, no matter the time of year. We know that not all conventions are listed below, but we’ve picked out fan and staff favorites.
June
Supernatural Official Convention Orlando is in obviously Orlando, but at the entrance to Universal Orlando. Precisely at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel from June 24th – the 26th. Creation Entertainment is known to be a pricy convention circuit focused on specific shows or fandoms. We recommend that fans double-check the fine print on these ticket orders and know that actors can cancel anytime. SF’s convention has been rescheduled over three times now with zero refunds.
Forest City Comic Con is a convention we’ve attended in the past and loved. This convention is held in London, Ontario, Canada, on June 25th.
Stranger Con is Creation Entertainment’s latest convention addition to their circus of conventions. If you are a fan of Stranger Things, this convention is for you! This one is being held in New Jersey from June 25th to 26th.
July
FanExpo Denver is another convention circuit we absolutely love! They are hitting Denver, Colorado, with an extensive list of guests July 1st – 3rd.
Ba-Con is in Alvin, Texas. It is a one-day anime convention. It is all about anime, cosplay, and artists. It has an artist alley and performances and vendors. It takes place July 2nd from 12 pm to 10 pm. I love the name.
GACUCON sounds insanely amazing! It is a Con cruise! It departs from Miami, Florida, on June 3rd through the 6th and is a six-day-long cruise. There is a twenty-four-hour gaming hall, a comic and manga library for your reading pleasure, role-playing game campaigns, game consoles for your use, board games, and more. This sounds awesome!
FanExpo Dallas is the second FanExpo convention in July. This one in Dallas Texas, will run July 7-10th.
London Film and Comic Con is a fantastic convention we’ve also had the pleasure of attending in the past. It’s running July 8th – 10th in London, UK. This convention is a big one for media and movies in the UK.
TasPop South and Taspop North are formerly AICon and MAICon. TasPop South will be July 15th– 17th at Princes Wharf No. 1 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It concentrates on cosplay competitions, video game tournaments, panels, and demonstrations. They, of course, have art and a vendor section.
Fan Favorite and King of the Comic-Con, San Diego Comic-Con will be live again at Hall H July 21st – 24th. This San Diego convention has been a staple in all geeks, whether you actually attend or watch it at home. We’ve proudly covered this convention for over eight years and can’t wait to do it for a ninth!
LeakyCon Orlando is another popular con that takes place in Orlando that’s based around Harry Potter and the wizarding fandom. It runs July 29th – 31st in Orange, Flordia.
The Vampire Diaries and The Originals Official Convention will be happening the same weekend in Whippany, New Jersey, the same weekend as Leaky Con. If you are a fan of either or both of these television series, you do not want to miss out on this convention.
WasabiCon is on July 30th and 31st and takes place in Portland, Oregon. It is all about everything, geek. There will be celebrity guests, contests, panels, exhibits, and more. It is family-friendly during the day and more for adults in the evening.
August
Crunchyroll Expo is August 5th -7th in San Jose, California. It is all things anime, just like Crunchyroll streaming. This year it is a hybrid convention, both in-person and online. It boasts unique panels as well as merch and world premieres.
Game On Expo is in my old stomping grounds of Phoenix, Arizona. It is a multimedia gaming and anime convention that includes music in its goings-on. Unfortunately, I moved to Washington before the convention started. It is only for one day, August 7th, at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Wild Prairie Fur Con is a convention all about anthropomorphic (human-like animal characters, just in case). There are artists, writers, crafters, costumers, puppeteers, and fans. It sounds incredible, and my middle child would absolutely LOVE this. It takes place August 12th – 14th in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, at Radisson Hotel Winnipeg Downtown. FanExpo Boston will be at the Boston Convention Center on the same weekend.
Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, Washington, will be happening from August 18th – to 21st. We’ve really enjoyed covering this convention over the past few years. So if you want to try a big convention, this is a great one!
Nerd Fest in Swedesboro, NJ, there is a happening for a day to bring all nerds together at one event. Artists, creators, vendors, and more will be there. It seems you can get your hands on damn near any type of merch. They have everything. Make sure to get there on August 21st!
WV Pop Culture Con is in Morgantown, West Virginia August 27th and 28th. Of course, it has panels, merch, and creators. It covers the latest and greatest in pop culture.
SiliCon in San Jose, California, will be happening the same weekend as WV Pop Culture Con. The Game of Nerds has been covering this convention since its start, so you can guarantee we will be there.
Are any of these close to you? The list I found of all the conventions is insane and can be found here. I bet you can find something in your backyard. What kind of Con are you looking for? Let me know in the comment below. Until next time, have fun storming the castle!
