Ah, the 1990s. What a wildly changing decade for me. I went from 8th grade at the beginning to entering motherhood at the end of that particular ten-year span. As you can imagine, what I watched varied wildly. Now for me to consider it a 90s show, it had to have started in the 90s. Sorry Golden Girls and Married With Children. Here are a few of my five favorites from that crazy time in my life.
Blossom (1990-1995)~ Starring Mayim Bialik and Joey Lawrence. Blossom is growing up with a dad and two brothers and wishes for a woman’s touch in the home. Unfortunately, she and Six are always getting into some kind of trouble. Oh, I was so in love with Joey Lawrence, absolutely head over heels. I listened to his music too. I also loved Mayim Bialik’s character, Blossom. I adored and envied her style. I thought she had a great life and wanted to be her.

The Nanny (1993-1999)~ Starring Fran Drescher, Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis, and Lauren Lane. Fran Fine is down on her luck but lands a job as a nanny for a wealthy single father’s kids. I loved this show. Fran’s voice is fantastic. I have always dug it. The way Ms. Fine always dug into Ms. Babcock was just brilliant. Niles and Ms. Babcock went to eat others’ throats, too, giving us even more laughs. I was thrilled when Ms. Fine and Mr. Sheffield got together.

Living Single (1993-1998)~ Starring Queen Latifah, Kim Coles, Erika Alexander, John Henton, Kim Fields, and Terrence Carson. Young, carefree people in the same building become friends and lean on each other. I used to fantasize about living their lives. Their lives seemed so fun. I always thought Kyle was mean, and come to think of it, so was Regine. I was happy when Obe and Synclaire got together.

Daria (1997-2001)~ Starring Tracy Grandstaff and Wendy Hoopes as Daria and Jane, respectively. I can honestly say I watch it every chance I get to this day. MTV came out with this cartoon show, and I just ate it up. Daria is a high school student, and Jane is her best friend. Everyone in this show is insane. I swear. Daria and Jane are completely over it. The teachers at school are appalling. The parents are useless. It’s great!

The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air (1990-1996)~ Starring Will Smith, James Avery, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Reid, Janet Hubert, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Will Smith played a poor kid from Philly sent to Bel-Air to live with his aunt and her family to keep him safer than at home. It has so many wholesome moments to go with all that hilarity. It was always the best to see Carlton dance. For as much crap as Will would give him, he had great rhythm.

I can honestly say my favorite of these is Daria. I should rewatch it again soon. I think Living Single is calling my name again too. Do you remember these shows? Did I miss any of your favorites? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time!
Good old Will Smith
