Conan Exiles The MMO Playing And Crafting

I know I am kinda late to the party, but playing Conan Exiles is a bunch of fun. Released May 8, 2018, by Funcom, Conan Exiles is an open-world, sandbox survival MMO. The premise of the game is that Conan saves you by cutting you down from being crucified.

I know I am kinda late to the party, but playing Conan Exiles is a bunch of fun. Released May 8, 2018, by Funcom, Conan Exiles is an open-world, sandbox survival MMO. The premise of the game is that Conan saves you by cutting you down from being crucified. You must learn to survive and thrive. Once down you must fight boars, demons, wolves and that’s just in the beginning area. You must gather resources and find a place to build and live.

As you play, there are goals you want to meet. You have to kill animals for food, though at first, it’s berries and bugs. You have to watch your hunger, thirst, and temperature. In this world, you cannot get too hot or too cold, too hungry, or too thirsty or you will have problems and it will eat at your health and stamina. Shelter helps with the temperature part. You can build so much stuff, it’s incredible. Everything from a basic tent and bedroll to entire cities. The decoration is pretty good.

The customization of your character is basic. The best part is that you can adjust your breast and penis size. You can also enable nudity for your game. I have nudity enabled and my breasts arrive before I do. You can dye your armor and clothes. You can be a warrior or you can simply be a crafter. I run with three warriors so all three of them can tank but all are better at melee than me. I am a healer usually, and there are healing arrows in this game but no magic which honestly makes me a little sad. That being said we each have our specialty and so we have our jobs. We go out on explorations or for farming but mostly we have been building our home which is a large undertaking.

As you gain levels you get attribute points and feat points. The attributes you have to manage are strength, agility, vitality, accuracy, grit, encumbrance, and survival. The feats are many. I am the cook, alchemist, brewer, and interior decorator for my clan so the feats I took reflect that. There are categories and each category has feats in it that teach you either a single recipe or multiple. I also am an archer because I prefer ranged combat, so my feats also reflect that. Feats are very crafting-oriented. The feats categories are construction, decoration, survival, weapons, armor, and religion. For my build, I put feat points into decoration under torchbearer, furniture maker, and such. Under weapons, because I am an archer I took archer and I will be taking bows-epic. I put points in survival for cooking and such. You can’t learn everything so be careful where you put points. There are potions that can help you get your points back if you need them though.

Crafting takes a second to figure out. I couldn’t figure it out and rage quit a couple of times. I will tell you the secret, for the crafting stations that have the screen on the right that has symbols in circles such as a house that is building items and a fish for consumables. If you go through those you will find the recipes you can make at the particular crafting station. Once you find the recipes it’s pretty self-explanatory.

Riding mounts is a horrible thing. You can only move your mount using the W, A, S, D keys. The mouse still turns the camera but it doesn’t mean your mount is going in that direction. You can do battle on your mount though. Shooting bows and swinging sharp and blunted weapons are all doable on a mount in this game. I can’t do it. I have nerve damage in my hands and arms and it makes it hard. People who are avid gamers shouldn’t have a problem because the guys I play with can do it and they are avid gamers.

All in all, this is a great game. The crafting is great. For me, that is a major thing. There is a definite process to get what you need for crafting which is something I appreciate. There are different biomes with different monsters and mats. The customization is decent and that makes me happy. The dungeons and instances re-spawn, unlike Valhiem. The fighting isn’t stupid hard nor is it stupid easy. You can find it on Steam. There is the base game. Conan Exiles. There is the expansion Isle of Siptah, as well as ten DLCs. There is a wiki site for Conan Exiles, you can find it here. It has a ton of good information. Does a game like this interest you? Let me know in the comments below. Until next week…
