DC FanDome was a digital convention that premiered only on August 22. The digital event featured DC Comic-related panels, trailers, surprises, and more! It was featured in 9 languages, it was free to view, and even had an encore at the end. The encore was replaying the whole event.
According to WarnerMedia and Variety, “generated 22 million views across 220 countries and territories over its 24-hour run, via the in-house player, livestreams by comic book influencers and other content generated by fans watching the event.” The trailers that were shown at the event racked in 150 million views since its premier, Variety reported.

The big panels were focused on DC’s films coming out (Which I will go into in a bit), while between these panels were sketches, Q&As, and interviews. This was definitely much more different from San Diego’s Comic-Con@Home event; which was comprised of youtube videos that showed hosts using Zoom especially for the Junji Ito panel that I had covered. DC FanDome used a green screen space to create a literal domed arena. DC also had hosts and guests use green screen in their Zoom broadcasts, so it would look like they’re in the arena, which The Verge goes into detail on. The Verge also touched base on how the event didn’t seem live. Everything seemed pre-recorded and scripted, which isn’t necessarily bad. Like The Verge mentions,
“WarnerMedia (parent company of Warner Bros. and DC Comics) also has an in-house editing team. Being given time to edit together an eight-hour show is a lot easier to do than trying to work with live feeds from around the world. The teams had time to figure out how to make a virtual convention feel like something worth tuning into for eight hours.”

But this won’t be the only DC FanDome event. After listening to fans, Warner Bros. have decided to split DC FanDome into two events. The first event was on August 22 and is called, DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes. The second part will be delayed to September 12 and will be called, DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse.
The “Explore the Multiverse” event will showcase the following panels: WatchVerse, YouVerse, InsiderVerse, FunVerse, and DC Kids FanDome categories. The event will be the same like the first, it will go live and only for 24 hours, after which it cannot be viewed again.

But what was some big announcements at DC FanDome? Well here it is, along with any updates since their announcement!
Gotham Knights (2021)
Gotham Knights is a new open-world game by Warner Bros. Games Montreal. PCGamer’s description of the game is as follows, “Main man Bruce Wayne has allegedly died in an Batcave explosion, leaving four other Bat Family members in charge of protecting Gotham in the lawlessness that follows his death.” You get to play as Robin (Tim Drake), Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Nightwing (Dick Grayson), and Redhood (Jason Todd). The antagonists of the game are Court of Owls and Mr. Freeze.
Though no exact release date yet, it does say it will release in 2021. WB Games Montreal also released a video to showcase the gameplay. It shows that the moves you use in battle will change with your character’s level. The video also shows some RPG elements as well as action. The game will be in single-player and two-player. But the Gotham Knights will also see resistance from Gotham City Police because of the death of commissioner Jim Gordon. WB Games also assures that this game will take place on a different continuity and won’t be the continuation of Batman: Arkham series (video game series, 2009-2015).
The game will be launching on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)
This version of the film will have new scenes that weren’t in the original release of Justice League (2017). The new version of the movie will hit HBO Max in 2021. According to The Verge, “It will air in four, hour-long installments.”
Comic Book Resources reported the following, “Snyder’s original cut of Justice League was supposed to continue the story of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice while also introducing and fleshing out Cyborg, Aquaman, The Flash, Steppenwolf, Desaad and Darkseid. It was also supposed to set up two sequels that would complete Snyder’s five-movie arc in the DC Extended Universe.” But WB wanted it cut down to two hours, which gave audiences a movie that didn’t bode well with them nor the critics.
The original movie didn’t have a great start. Zack Snyder originally worked on the film and walked away from the project due to the loss of his daughter to suicide and needed time to heal from the loss. The director role was then filled by Joss Whedon. This is when fans took issue, because Whedon took a more comedic tone with the film, according to The Verge. Fans then started a campaign to have WB show the Snyder cut of the film.
The Batman (2021)
The Batman introduces Robert Pattinson as the new Dark Knight of Gotham, Batman. The setting of the movie takes place two years into Batman’s career. Director Matt Reeves mentioned in DC FanDome that this was when he was considered a masked vigilante and feared by citizens. The trailer showcases other characters like; James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz), Alfred (Andy Serkis), Riddler (Paul Dano), Penguin (Colin Farrell), just to name a few. Batman’s career won’t be the only one that is just starting, it seems many of the characters are just starting out as well, Like Selina Kyle’s career as Catwoman or Oswald Cobblepot’s career as The Penguin.
According to The Verge, the movie is being pushed out to October 1, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic it had paused production of the movie.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2022)
I had already written about this game before the announcement, so please check that out! I will however put in updates on this game here.
The Suicide Squad game will take place after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight and will be on the same continuity. According to Gamerant, this suddenly evil Superman could be brainwashed by Brainiac, another nod to this in the trailer is the giant skull ship that has giant tentacles is one of Brainiac’s “calling cards”. It feels safe to assume that the Justice League is being brainwashed by Brainiac.
The Suicide Squad members shown in the trailer are as follows: Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark (and as shown by her voice in the beginning, Amanda Waller is also in the game). So far the game takes place in Metropolis.
The game can be single player (where you can play one character or interchange among the Suicide Squad) or play with friends. Each character will have a unique set of skills that will be unlockable as you progress through the story. According to Screenrant, “each playable character in Suicide Squad will also have their own traversal moves. This means Harley Quinn will have a different way of getting around than Deadshot or the others, and it also means players will have to figure out which means of travel they prefer.”
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launches on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
The Wonder Woman 1984 movie features the following cast: Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Pedro Pascal (Maxwell Lord), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), and Kristen Wiig (Cheetah/ Barbara Minerva).
The movie will take place in 1984 (the first Wonder Woman film taking place in WWI), where Wonder Woman is up against Maxwell Lord (and the main antagonist, Cheetah. And that Steve Trevor is somehow back?
Wonder Woman 1984 will be hitting theaters on October 2 and will not launch digitally.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
The Suicide Squad movie will release in 2021 and this is what we know. The movie is directed by James Gunn, and though this isn’t a full trailer, we do see glimpses of what to expect. They also released a roll call teaser as well.
Here is the cast: Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Savant (Michael Rooker), Javelin(Flula Borg), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Polka Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), King Shark (Steve Agee), Mongal (Mayling Ng), Thinker (Peter Capaldi), Sol Soria (Alice Braga), Blackguard (Pete Davidson), TDK (Nathan Fillion), Weasel (Sean Gunn), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), and Peace Maker (John Cena).
The Flash Gets A New Costume and A Movie (2022)

It was announced at DC FanDome, Flash will be getting a new costume and a new movie to go with it. Filmmakers, Andy and Barbara Muschietti will be joining the movie. Ezra Miller is still set to reprise his role as Flash. We know that time travel will be involved in the film.
The Flash’s new suit is made by Bruce Wayne (shown above) and news dropped that Ben Affleck is reprising his role as Batman in the film. Michael Keaton is also be on board to reprise his role as Batman.
The Flash movie is scheduled to release on June 3, 2022.
Black Adam (2021)
Black Adam will be played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the new Black Adam movie that is set to release in 2021. The movie will show Black Adam’s origins and as well as Black Adam going against Justice Society of America and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo).
Polygon describes the panel as follows, “Following closely along with his comic book counterpart, concept art shown during the Black Adam panel establishes that was enslaved in the desert nation of Khandaq, and was granted the power of the Wizard Shazam, just like Billy Batson in the modern day. Then he was imprisoned for five thousand years, presumably after he freed the Seven Deadly Sins and nearly destroyed the world, as established in Shazam!.”
“Another set of concept images revealed Black Adam battling Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and Cyclone, in addition to Atom Smasher. All of this lines up with how Black Adam is depicted in comics.”
and Lastly, The Sandman Series

Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” will be coming to Netflix.
Though currently its at a pause due to the pandemic. The show will take place in 1916 and not in 1988 like the graphic novels.
