Spoilers will be talked about below, so please be sure to watch the latest episode before reading on! This review is based off of the dub version of Super that currently airs on Toonami.

Episode 93 ain’t no filler episodes my friends, it’s actually a plot heavy episode focusing on Goku trying to revive Frieza and also has a massive side story featuring the Universe 6’s Saiyans as they try to achieve a new power level before the tournament. So lets get on with that review, shall we?

We open up the episode right where we left off with Goku dropping his bombshell of wanting to revive Frieza for the tournament — after Buu entered his deep hibernation period of two months, effectively kicking him off the team. At first, Goku get’s massive flack for it from everyone, especially Vegeta who reminds him of everything that Frieza did to them over the years. But then Goku counters back saying that Frieza will not be revived by the Dragon Balls themselves but instead only for 24 hours by Baba — similar to how she did it for both Goku and Vegeta back in Dragon Ball Z. And then also, if Frieza tries to do anything funny that they will stop him as they always do. Goku also asks Whis what their odds are if they don’t get Frieza on the team and he says it’s pretty slim, especially with one of the universes boasting a fighter who is actually stronger their own God Of Destruction! So with that said, Goku gets the reluctant approval of everyone at Bulma’s house and then heads off to see King Yema in the otherworld.

King Yema doesn’t agree with Goku at all, not one bit. So instead Goku has to spill the beans on what’s really at stake and that their entire universe can be wiped out if they don’t win, even the otherworlds will be gone! Eventually King Yema reluctantly agrees and gives Goku the approval to revive Frieza for 24 hours, but he tells Goku to make sure Frieza doesn’t attack earth and have him go killing some other planet. Goku assures him that that won’t happen at all.

As soon as King Yema gives his seal of approval on the paperwork, we cut to Universe 6 and catch up with their Saiyans. Cabba and Calufia are still trying to teach Kale how to go Super Saiyan but everything they’re doing isn’t working. Kale’s meek nature is actually restricting her from powering up similar to how Calufia and Cabba did it — which was through rage and anger. Kale just doesn’t believe she’s capable of doing it. So eventually Cabba and Calufia begin arguing over what to do and during this time Kale in her sad mental state actually triggers something. She begins transforming, but at an alarming rate! She’s actually capable of a power level beyond just the standard Super Saiyan instead she shoots over it and enters the Legendary Super Saiyan form made famous by villain Broly! Kale basically becomes the first ever cannon Legendary Super Saiyan fighter in the series and even looks like Broly with the glowing green hair, pupil-less eyes and the raging thirst for blood. That last fact so much so, that she starts fighting with Cabba almost instantly.

When we come back from break, we actually end up on Universe 4. Turns out there was a spy of Universe 4 watching Goku and the others at Bulma’s house talking about Frieza. The spy in turn ended up reporting everything back to their Universe 4 bosses: the God Of Destruction, Angel and Supreme Kai of that universe. Here the Universe 4’s God of Destruction begins scheming of subterfuge and how to prevent Goku and the rest of Universe 7 from getting a slight edge against them. The Supreme Kai of Unvierse 4 interjects and warns the God Of Destruction, that this might be illegal and something the Omni-Kings don’t like. The God Of Destruction in turns replies that they, the Omni-Kings, never said anything about doing this. He begins scheming some more.

Back on Universe 6, Cabba is trying to survive against Kale’s monstrous form and is absolutely no match. At first Cabba and Calufia think Kale is just showing off, but eventually figure out that she’s loosing control and is in a mad rage. They come to the conclusion that Kale thinks Calufia wants to be with Cabba more then with Kale, which isn’t the case at all. Kale begins charging up her Gigantic Omega attack to blast Cabba with but Calufia interferes and blocks the attack fully. While doing so Calufia actually achieves Super Saiyan 2 form for the first time as well! She’s able to talk Kale down and reason with her, eventually depowering Kale completely. Cabba instead quips on how he only came to get one strong Saiyan but instead found two.

Finally, we’re back with Goku as he ventures into hell to see Frieza. Goku is actually taken aback from it at first, since the area where Frieza is being held at is actually a giant meadow with flowers and clear purple skies. It’s actually really really peaceful there with Frieza tied up in a tree and basically jailed for eternity. The two begin to talk about what’s going on in hell. Frieza says that for Goku, this place is peaceful but for him it’s a pure nightmare but Frieza suspects that Goku is here for something more and that he needs him for something. Goku eventually cuts Frieza from the tree and instantly the sky and everything turn into a nightmarish purple with the evil emperor free.

At the foot of the tree, the two begin talking more and Goku explains that he’s going to revive Frieza for 24 hours only and that they will compete in the tournament of power. He lays out the rules for Frieza and the fact that the universe is at stake. Frieza agrees but under one condition, that if they win, Goku must revive him permanently! Goku instantly says done, not afraid of the consequences of this currently. Goku then leaves Frieza to his own devices in hell and instant transmissions over to Baba’s house.

Here, Goku gives Baba a “Yo!” the moment he steps foot there. Baba, being all-seeing, knows why Goku’s there but asks for payment to revive Frieza. Goku hands over the Omni-Kings button — the same one that he used against Black and Zamasu episodes ago. But, Baba want’s actual money and not a button that can take her to beings who can kill her. Goku then say’s sorry and promises he’ll have something better for her the next time he sees her. The episode then ends with Goku flying off and Frieza being menacing in hell, waiting to be revive. The narrator then explains that there’s less then 2 hours until the tournament officially begins.

So as you can see here, so many major plot points occurred in the span of thirty minutes! Frieza’s revival plot was done actually quiet well, I completely forgot Baba can bring people back for 24 hours and legit thought that they’ll have to round up the Dragon Balls instead. The real shocker here was the fact that Kale has a Legendary Super Saiyan form! That was from left field and I was not expecting that to happen. Kale may just be the trump card that Universe 6 needs to give them the edge against the other universes, especially against Goku and Vegeta. Time will tell. The strange twist of the episode though was Universe 4’s involvement. I totally expect them to make Frieza’s revival process to not go as smooth as possible. Here’s to next week filling us in on this new development.
