As we close the books on a successful year for Nintendo — one that featured big releases like Mario Tennis Aces, Super Mario Party, Pokémon: Let’s Go! and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — the industry is turning its attention to what’s in store for 2019. With rumors swirling around about Nintendo’s plans for next year, there’s a lot to be excited about.

As we countdown to 2019, here’s what we could see as we head into the new year.

Metroid Prime Mania

Though we didn’t get the game trailer for Metroid Prime 4, there’s talk about the remastered Metroid Prime Trilogy being released in the spring of 2019. This rumor does seem likely, especially given that Bayonetta’s first two entries were released as a bundle to hype up the much anticipated Bayonetta 3. With the Switch’s motion controls being more sophisticated than the Wii, it will be interesting to see how the gameplay shakes out with the handheld mode in the mix.

A Breath Of Fresh Air For Breath Of The Wild

With job listings and murmurs that a follow-up to 2017’s Breath of the Wild is in the works, fans are hopeful that Nintendo’s E3 2019 presentation doesn’t disappoint. Though the time between the original game and the proposed sequel isn’t as long as normal, talk of the game being more of a Majora’s Mask-esque game — using the same game engine and many similar assets — makes this rumor seem likely.

Nintendo Switch 2.0

As soon as the Nintendo Switch was released, talk about a 2.0 or ‘Switch-Lite’ version began. Several outlets have reported that the release of a refreshed Switch is imminent in 2019. Nintendo of America’s President, Reggie Fils-Amié, has played coy, stating that the success of the Nintendo Switch means that the platform will be supported for years to come.
