With patch 12.1, the Curse of Ula’tek, World of Warcraft (WOW) is officially at the halfway point through the World Soul Saga. While some community members would say the story has gotten worse, raids and dungeons have gotten better and, in some cases, tougher. Midnight Patch 12.0 introduced 10 raid bosses across four different raids, mixing up the formulaic eight bosses in one raid. Patch 12.1 returns to the formula… Since it has not even been released yet, it is too early to make any judgements. However, the release date for the patch is August 11th for story related content, and August 18th for the new season of Midnight including the new raid, dungeons, and PVP. Here is everything coming in WOW Patch 12.1.

The Curse of Ula’tek focuses on the story of Zul’jan and his homeland, Zul’aman. This Troll tribe has long isolated itself from the world, but with the encroachment of the void, they must seek the aid of allies and more power. The story will take players to the Coiled Isle off the east coast of Zul’aman. This new zone will provide a few new events, a new reputation, new enemies, and hosts the new raid and dungeon. Lastly, it introduces a new feature called Lairs. Lairs are mix of world bosses, raids, and delves with scaling difficulty on unique single boss encounters.

The most anticipated new content is the raid, The Venomous Abyss. As hinted above, this is an eight-boss raid with the final boss being Ula’tek. Its venom and corruption theme is entombed in an ancient structure that looks similar to Mayan or Aztec architecture. This raid will release on all difficulties simultaneously on August 18th. With the same theme, the new dungeon, Alter of Fangs, features three bosses and will part of the season two dungeon rotation. Thus, the mythic and lower difficulties of this dungeon will be released on August 11th, and the mythic plus version will be released on the 18th.

Speaking of season two dungeon rotation, seven other existing dungeons will join Alter of Fangs. Here they are:

  • Murder Row (released with Midnight but getting its first mythic plus in season two)
  • Den of Nalorakk (same as above)
  • The Blinding Vale (same as above)
  • Voidscar Arena (same as above)
  • King’s Rest (a Battle for Azeroth dungeon returning for season two)
  • Ruby Life Pools (a Dragonflight dungeon returning for season two)
  • Temple of Sethraliss (a Battle for Azeroth dungeon returning for season two)

Just like Alter of Fangs, mythic difficulty and below will release on August 11th, and mythic plus will release on August 18th.

The Prey system is being updated with new affixes and enemies that can be found on the Coiled Isle, as well as new questlines that progress the Prey story. Prey, and everything else mentioned above, will come with new loot including higher item level gear, mounts, battle pets, armor appearances, and more.

Player housing is also getting massive quality of life updates. From blueprints to save and share house layouts, to allowing battle pets to roam their houses, and much more, the housing system in WOW will feel more comfy and homey than ever with the 12.1 patch update.

Lastly, every single class is getting changes or damage tuning ahead of all this new content. Some classes are just getting minor damage adjustments here and there, while other classes are getting their talents and abilities fundamentally changed. This is all before the tier set bonus that all players will get a few weeks into the new season, which will also change how a class, specialization, and player plays their character.

With all that said, here are the full patch notes for more information.
