In an alternate reality of present-day Oakland, Calif., telemarketer Cassius Green finds himself in a macabre universe after he discovers a magical key that leads to material glory. As Green’s career begins to take off, his friends and co-workers organize a protest against corporate oppression. Cassius soon falls under the spell of Steve Lift, a cocaine-snorting CEO who offers him a salary beyond his wildest dreams. – Annapurna Pictures
Sorry to Bother You is a movie much like Get Out— its funny, it’s weird and it has message that I’m probably too stupid to understand. It feels like it’s about racism and classism but I could be totally wrong. There’s definitely a message and there is something to be learned from this movie. But besides all that this is a victorious directorial debut from Boots Riley. Sorry to Bother You is such a visually creative and appealing movie. It’s quite subversive, there’s comedy and body horror — it’s just so weird and it looks great. A must see for the year, definitely.
