I have a love-hate relationship with Netflix. On one hand I try to support physical home video releases including my local video store. But on the other Netflix attracts so much interesting talent and more often than not creates interesting content. At their best, the content begs to be shown in a theater. Case in-point, Cary Joji Fukunaga’s (director of the first season of True Detective) new Netflix limited series Maniac. Check out the synopsis and trailer below:
“MANIAC tells the stories of Annie Landsberg (Emma Stone) and Owen Milgrim (Jonah Hill), two strangers drawn to the late stages of a mysterious pharmaceutical trial. Things do not go as planned.”

Trippy, gorgeous, surreal, and a little frightening, but I expected nothing less from Fukuanga. Not sure enterirely what’s going on with the spookey labs and mind-melting sequences, but that’s part of the appeal. It feels a tad bit like FX’s Legion and that show is very divisive among audiences. But anybody looking for an adventurous series will feel right at home.
Maniac Premieres on September 21, 2018 Only On Netflix
