Russo Brothers on Assassination Nation at SDCC

The Russos have a had a heck of a year with Avengers: Infinity War, but they still made time to produce some smaller projects. One of those projects is the violent social satire Assassination Nation. A hacker releases private details of a local town with nasty texts, internet history, social media posts, etc. Basically all hell breaks loose as the town turns on each other. Check out the NSFW red band trailer below filled with bullying, vomiting, bullets, and frogs:

Joe Russo said “This is reflective of a new generations of emerging filmmakers who are very connected to millennials and this younger generation who’ve grown up with technology in ways we did not. Here, narrative is not always primary expression.” Said Anthony Russo: “The reason we bought in on this film was we found it a stunning new style of filmmaking that was branded with a young generation. We live in a time where the message of this movie needs to be heard and sometimes the best way to get the point across is not just through narrative. It’s wired into the heart of how people think now. It fits the appetite here for genre, exploitation, cutting edge filmmaking that pulls no punches.”
I’m loving the whole Mean Girls meets The Purge vibe from this film. It looks it’ll playing well with a rowdy crowd ready to be shocked.
Assassination Nation is in theaters September 21, 2018

Growing up in the small town of Wasilla, Alaska, the local video store was my favorite place to be and was where I discovered many of my geeky obsessions that I still cherish to this very day. I can name all of Godzilla characters just from the sound effects. Kurt Russell/John Carpenter is the best actor-director team-up, even rivaling Robert De Niro/Martin Scorsese. If you asked me my favorite movie of all-time, it's a 3-way tie between Dazed and Confused, Repo Man, and A Clockwork Orange.
