The Premise
D&D: Honor Among Thieves is based on the popular tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. This chaotic campaign will take place in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. Viewers will embark on a journey centered around a charming thief and their misfit crew of adventurers. Unfortunately, while searching for a long-lost relic, they screw over the wrong people. While the official plot synopsis is short, I do not doubt that this film will be full of hijinx, fumbles, and wrongs that will be righted via the power of friendship.
Thoughts
I have been looking forward to D&D: Honor Among Thieves for a while now. I have read the criticisms, mostly centered around the party’s druid. However, when I DM a campaign, I follow the “rule of cool.” A movie focused on following the rules to a tee would be boring, especially to those who have never played D&D. I think this is a great way to expose people to a fun hobby in a way that is less daunting. So many of my friends have opted out of trying D&D because it seems overwhelming. I am excited to see how the cast will bring my favorite tabletop role-playing game to life.
Odds and Ends
Movie-goers can expect to see D&D: Honor Among Thieves hit the theaters on March 31, 2023. It should also be noted that Paramount+ has already begun developing a television spin-off. Entertainment One and Paramount Pictures are serving as production companies and will have eight episodes. Love D&D and want to binge a series?
