The hype is building. Starting with Godzilla (2014), connecting Kong: Skull Island, and continuing with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Warner Bros’ “monsterverse” is in full swing. EW has released official photos ahead of the Comic-Con panel this Saturday. Showing off the title character as well as the human characters played Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown and The Conjuring‘s Vera Farmiga. Check them out below:
This first photo is an absolutely gorgeous callback to the best moment in Godzilla. I still remember how crazy the crowd in theater went when his lit up blue. It shows that director Michael Dougherty has the a similar grand scale Gareth Edwards has despite Dougherty working with smaller budgets up util now.
Director Dougherty also revealed some interesting tidbits: “…it takes place at a very key moment and it’s a sort of call to arms…” If this goes according to Godzilla mythology, Godzilla could very well be calling Rodan and Mothra to helping take down King Ghidorah. Dougherty went on to comment on Rodan: “Rodan’s been kind of a sidekick character, but I’ve always had a soft spot for him. In a lot of ways he’s more powerful than Godzilla. He’s like this winged A-bomb. I think we’ve done him justice.” It’s great to see Dougherty is a fan of the franchise characters. This also leads me to believe that Rodan will be some what teased if not out right revealed in the first trailer dropping at Comic-Con and hopefully online soon after. We’ll have full coverage on Comic-Con starting this Friday!
