Keywords: Nicolas Cage. 1983. Mutant Bikers. Battle Axe. Chainsaw Fight. Still not hyped? Check out the synopsis and trailer below:
“Pacific Northwest. 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.”
Where do I begin? It’s great to see Cage get a role that truly feels like it tailor made for him. So often the material and filmmakers just aren’t on his level when he’s giving it 110%. Panos Casmatos has conjured a vision that caters to Cage’s very particular brand of over-the-top acting. The grindhouse aesthetic feels rowdy yet precise, fun but not without soul. And it makes you realize just how underutilized chainsaw duels are in cinema. (Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 is the only other movie I can think off the top of my head.) In other words it looks like a perfect genre cult classic in the making.
Mandy is released in theaters and VOD on September 14, 2018
