In “Life of the Party”, Melissa McCarthy plays a middle-aged woman named Deanna, whose husband abruptly asks for a divorce because he’s in love with another woman. After burning his things, she makes the decision to return to college to finally get the Archeology degree she gave up years before.
This isn’t just any school. It happens to be the college where her daughter Maddie is completing her senior year. Not wanting to disrupt her daughter, Deanna becomes roommates with a mysterious dark-goth girl named Lenore, who is agoraphobic so she never leaves the room and sometimes sleeps in Deanna’s closet.
Along with Lenore, Deanna also meets a variety of girls from Maddie’s sorority. One of the first girls Deanna befriends is Helen. She spent 8 years in a coma (now referred to as Coma Girl) and is in Deanna’s archaeology class. Another girl from the sorority is Debbie. She’s a shy, insecure girl who never asks a question without…asking for permission first?
“Life of the Party” has a spectacular cast including Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone, Maya Rudolph and so many more. From participating in an 80’s dance off, to wrecking her ex-husbands wedding, to hosting a concert with Christina Aguilera this film has no short of hilarity.
Deanna even becomes involved with a college student named Jake. He’s young and possibly just what Deanna needs to feel part of college life. That is, until Deanna finds out Jake is the son of her ex-husbands mistress turned wife.
There isn’t a single character in this film that won’t make you laugh at one time or another. I highly recommend this film to anyone who wants to escape for a while!
