Once upon a time, in a galaxy not so far away, the Sci-Fi channel (now known as SyFy, in case you weren’t aware that it was once just the Sci-Fi channel) had a marathon of all the Godzilla movies. It was the year 1998, yes twenty years ago, and a new movie was releasing in the Godzilla franchise. Being the budding little nerdling that I was, I watched many of the movies as they aired. Including the old school, original Godzilla movies. Needless to say, I fell in love with that giant, green lizard that was sometimes a monster, and sometimes a friend to humans.
Now that we have that biographical tidbit out of the way, let’s talk about Godzilla: King of Monsters, which is releasing next year. This movie is a follow up to 2014’s Godzilla. Godzilla: King of Monsters will be the 35th movie in the Godzilla franchise and the 3rd film in the Legendary’s MonsterVerse, which so far contains Godzilla and King Kong. Godzilla: King of Monsters is going to have Godzilla facing off against other larger than life monsters for supremacy and how humanity will survive in the wake of these epic battles. The newly formed cryptozoology agency, Monarch, will be leading the battle against these monsters. Can I just say, I would really love to work for a cryptozoology agency. Minus the giant monsters battling against each other with no regard for humanity, though.
This film is going to be directed by Michael Dougherty, who was a writer for X-Men Apocolypse and Superman Returns. Vera Farmiga, of Conjuring fame, and Ken Watanabe, who has starred in many movies including Inception and various Transformers movies, will be taking the lead roles. Millie Bobby Brown, aka the Princess of Sci-Fi (I really love her, okay?) will also be in the film.
There have not been any official trailers launched for the film yet. I am really excited for this film. The scheduled release date is March 22nd, 2019.
Who is your favorite Godzilla monster? Tell me in the comments below! Mine is Mothra. I love that giant bug.
