I’vd seen quite a few posts about people being disappointed with the Szechuan sauce McDonald’s released on Feb. 26. And to that I have to say one thing: peace among worlds, my nerds.

Listen, this whole thing was a journey. A huge, twisted, unneccesary and irrevocably ridiculous journey. And that’s not a bad thing…the fact that a fandom was able to ignite a fast food revolution and revive a dipping sauce from the dead is incredible. Let’s be real, how many other fandoms can boast a movement that worked as quickly as the “Rick and Morty” fans did to get the Szechuan sauce revived?

I may not have been able to get my hands on any of the sauce last fall during the first reboot, but this time I struck gold! Two McDonald’s restaurants and 40 nuggets later, I had 7 packets of the precious sauce lying before me (plus a vodka-cran because how else do you celebrate a moment like this?). Unfortunately, because I had been seeing tweets all day from people who were disappointed with the sauce, I wasn’t as excited as I expected to be.

That changed once I tried the sauce. No, it doesn’t taste unique. And no, it’s not an out-of-this-world experience. But the tangy sweetness of the sauce was different than anything I’d tasted with McNuggets thus far in my life, and I can tell you right now that it was an experience to remember. I mean, really…people have been dying to taste this sauce for almost a year and now we FINALLY have it. That tastes pretty damn good to me.
