The spookiest month of the year has come and what better way to celebrate Halloween than locking yourself in your room and playing video games! (Just turn your porch light off, maybe trick-or-treaters will think you’re not home.) Here’s some of the best video games to play to get into the spirit!
The Bioshock Series

Bioshock- 2K
Bioshock is easily one of my favorite games and a lot of time can leave a unerving feeling as you continue throughout the game. The first two Bioshocks are set in the underwater city of Rapture, and the most recent one is set in the city in the sky, Columbia. If you really immerse yourself and preferably have a headset on, you’re in for quite the ride.
Dead Space

Dead Space- EA
Dead Space when it first came out was the epitome of gore in video games alongside the like of Mortal Kombat and Gears of War. But it introduced an edge of solitude. Playing through the game myself, I always felt very lonely and claustrophobic. It has it’s fair share of tasteful jump scares and gore that really made you uncomfortable.
Until Dawn

Until Dawn- Supermassive Games
Until Dawn is a great story based horror game that gives you dialogue and action choices for a wide cast of characters. Everything you do or say will always have consequences so you have to think two steps ahead of the game. I say it is a must play or at the very least deserves a let’s play binge on Youtube.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard- Capcom
Resident Evil is one of the powerhouses when it comes to the horror genre. But RE7 really stands out in the group because of its sureal graphics and eerie feel. A lot of times you feel very helpless but you eventually progress and I feel the character and I got smarter and less fearful as we progressed.
The Last of Us

The Last of Us- Naughty Dog
This critically acclaimed horror lives up to the hype. Another heavily story based game that delivers. The characters and the situations they get put in feel so real that you can sense the struggle that they endure. It will be remembered as one the best games of this decade.
Inside

Inside- Playdead
If you’ve ever played Limbo you can get the feel of what kind of game Inside is. A platforming puzzle game with a slight twist of creepiness for your spooking needs. The game has a way of making you feel very small in the vast world they have created for us.
Alien Isolation

Alien Isolation- Creative Assembly
This game is an absolutely terrifying experience. If you turn your lights off, turn your game sound on your headset, and really immerse yourself into the game it can get to you. The gut feeling of helplessness and terror is really fun. Highly recommend giving it a try.
Did we miss your favorite scary games? Tell us what we forgot!
You forgot Silent Hill 🙂
Some great choices here. I plan on making my other-half play Until Dawn this Halloween… while I watch from the other end of the sofa, hiding behind a cushion.
Lol sounds like a great time!
