The Tardis is the time machine in which the Doctor transports himself and his accomplices to any point in time. And how small the chance is that you might see The Tardis, or even take a ride, I do know that there is one way to enjoy The Tardis: making these cupcakes!

Ingredients

Cupcakes
400 gr sugar
230 gr butter, at room temperature
2 eggs
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon royal blue gel food colouring
1 small dab of violet gel food colouring
350 gr (cake) flour
1 teaspoon salt
237 ml buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon vinegar

Frosting
454 gr cream cheese, softened
230 gr butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
640 gr sifted powdered sugar
Light blue gel food colouring
Melted dark chocolate

How to bake

Cupcakes
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line cupcake pans with liners.
2. Cream sugar and butter in mixing bowl till it’s light and fluffy.
3. Then add the eggs, one at a time, mix well after each egg.
4. Mix the cocoa and food colouring together to make a paste — this might take a while to mix thoroughly with all gel, but it came together nicely; add this paste to the creamed mixture and mix well again.
5. Sift the flour and salt, and add this to the creamed mixture a bit at a time, alternating with buttermilk, then mix in the vanilla.
6. Combine the baking soda and vinegar in a small bowl and add to the cake batter. Mix it just to combine.
7. Scoop the cupcake batter into the prepared cupcake liners, filling about 2/3 full.
8. Bake for probably 25-30 minutes, but start checking at 20. Watch for a toothpick or skewer inserted in centre to come out clean
9. When they are done, remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.

Frosting
1. Beat together the cream cheese, butter and vanilla with an electric mixer until the mixture is nice and smooth.
2. Add the sugar gradually and beat on low speed until the mixture very light and very fluffy.
3. Divide the mixture into 1/3 and 2/3rds. Color the 1/3rd part a light blue.
4. Pipe a circle of white frosting on the cupcake, with a blob of light blue in the middle and on top.
5. Use the melted chocolate to draw the lines on the frosting and top it all off with a mini marshmallow.
