I think there is no better place to start my very first post for TGON then with one of the biggest up and coming anime series, My Hero Academia. I’ve seen plenty of arguments over Twitter, comment sections, and Youtube videos arguing the main character, Izuku Midoriya, sits at the tops with the likes of Goku, Luffy, and Naruto. I don’t know about all that, but I think the show definitely has the potential.
Every one of us has seen a superhero movie, or read a superhero comic book. You know, this chosen entity of greatness blessed with unimaginable power. In My Hero Academia however, the majority of the population has super powers. These super powers are also known as “quirks”. Some people are born with very minor quirks like eyes that can zoom in from medium to long distances. But there also amazing, spectacular quirks like All Might’s One for All ability.
80% of the world’s population possess a unique quirk. But there is another 20% that does not have any special or unique ability. Our main character, Izuku Midoriya, is in this minority. He is just a teenage boy with one dream in mind: to become a hero. But his lack of a quirk makes it very difficult for him.He is bullied at his school by other classmates for being “quirkless”. Especially by one of his old childhood friends and explosives master, Katsuki Bakugo. So he tries to make up for what he lacks in strength with knowledge of all the different heroes in the world. Since he was a boy he studied all the most popular heroes there were. His number one favorite hero also happened to be the number one hero in the entire world, All Might.
Eventually, through a series of circumstances, Izuku proves that he is capable of carrying the responsibility of being a hero to All Might. All Might then hands down a sample of his power, All for One. All for One is a combination of two quirks. The power to unleash stockpiled strength inside the user’s body, and the ability to transfer said power to another person. So, with the help of All Might, Izuku trains to be able to pass the rigorous tests required for enrollment into U. A. High, an academy made for aspiring heroes.
So I hope that has captivated you enough to actually go watch the show. I don’t want to spoil too much for people who haven’t seen it yet. Just wanted to give them a taste of what they’ll be diving into. It has easily become one of my favorite shows right now. I don’t usually hop on the bandwagon for most show but this is the one worth hopping onto. If you haven’t watched it yet I extremely urge you to watch a couple of episodes.
Well I hope you enjoyed it! I’ll be back soon with a season 2 recap up to where the show currently stands. Then we will switch over to episodic recaps so we can go more in-depth into each episode! So stay tuned!
