Jurassic World roared into theaters the summer of 2015. Jurassic World brought us back to Isla Nublar 22 years after the disastrous events of Jurassic Park. Jurassic World was the fourth installment in the franchise and revitalized the films. New characters, new dinosaurs, an actually functioning park and some familiar faces.
With the success of Jurassic World a sequel was green lit. The actual name of the sequel is unknown, at least it was when I started writing this, that’s about to change. The film is set to premiere June 22nd, 2018. Being a year away from the release of the film means very little is known yet. In the coming months we can expect more news about the sequel. We have gotten one photo from the film which you can see below.
JA Bayona is set to direct and Derek Connolly and Collin Trevorrow wrote the script. Trevorrow directed Jurassic World. One thing we do know for sure is Jeff Goldblum’s character Ian Malcolm will be making his triumphant return to the big screen. Ian Malcolm is certainly a fan favorite and has not been seen since Jurassic Park: The Lost World. Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire and Chris Pratt’s Owen will also be returning for the sequel. BD Wong’s Dr. Wu is set to return as well and we are to expect a bigger role for him considering what was teased in Jurassic World. For a full list of cast and crew visit the IMDb page.
Very little is known about the plot as of now. Writer Collin Trevorrow recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast. On the podcast Trevorrow did share a little information about the sequel. Trevorrow had this to say about people who expect a lot of the same from Jurassic World 2, “J.A. Bayona is a completely different kind of filmmaker and thinker than I am, yet we do have a lot of things in common so I was able to craft’something specifically for another filmmaker that I admire. I built a Spanish horror thriller with dinosaurs in it that I probably wouldn’t have built for myself.” Calling the film a “Spanish horror thriller with dinosaurs” certainly excites me.
Trevorrow even went on to say that he expects this film to be better than his film. With Trevorrow saying this, “I gotta tell you man, I think that’s gonna be a better movie. I just do. It’s just deeper, it’s more character-based, it definitely leans into suspense especially in the second half. It does have the big action in the middle and there’s a sequence in the middle that I’ve been watching…I’ve started to see stuff come together and it’s just insane,” it is real hard not looking forward to Jurassic World 2. Aside from what Trevorrow has said we’ve also been teased by producer Frank Marshall. Marshall’s recent tweet seen below, leads us to expect some big news soon.
