It was reported last week by The Hollywood Reporter that Reese Witherspoon & Mindy Kaling are currently in talks to join Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time, with Oprah Winfrey already attached to the project.
Just a few days after Kaling spoke to Variety Latino on the set of The Mindy Project & said that her casting “is all fairly done.” DuVernay herself made all our dreams come true & confirmed the news on Twitter!
Mindy said of her casting: “I was very surprised because the movie is obviously very different than anything I’ve ever done before. But I look at Oprah and Reese Witherspoon, the three of us come from such different worlds so it’s going to be really exciting to play opposite them.”
Jennifer Lee (Frozen) adapted the beloved novel for this Disney remake that Duvernay will direct. Reese, Mindy & Oprah each play one of the helpful supernatural beings (Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who. & Mrs. Which respectfully) that the Meg & her friends encounter on their quest to locate her scientist father.
Rising star Storm Reid (Lea To The Rescue, Sleight) has been cast to play the young heroin Meg Murray. Casting is still open for her father and the schoolmates she embarks on the journey with, including Calvin, which is reportedly also going to be a non-white actor. #YASInclusionSLAY #RepresentationMatters.
By directing this movie, Ava DuVernay becomes the first woman of color to helm a live action blockbuster with a budget that exceeds 100 million dollars! #AboutTime
The movie is set to start production in November in Los Angeles & more official details are sure to emerge as we near the start date. For now all we can do is imagine these women working together & making magic & stealing our hearts!
