I’m back again with another Cursed Child Countdown! This week we’ll talk about the Weasleys! Well actually instead of calling them the Weasleys I should better call them the Granger-Weasleys since after her marriage to Ron Hermione decided to keep her real name and give their daughter a double last name.

Ron is played by Paul Thornley, Hermione by Noma Dumezweni and Rose is portrayed by Cherrelle Skeete, whose last name reminds me of Rita Skeeter ;). When the cast members were announced, these castings received the most criticism for two main reasons. One is that the actor playing Ron doesn’t appear to have any ginger hair, it looks more blonde than red. The explanation was that some ginger people turn slightly more blonde when they get older. Sounds fair to me.

Another point of criticism was, as expected, Hermione’s skin color. People were going mental over the fact that she wasn’t anything like the Hermione played by Emma Watson. The response from JK was that she never specified Hermione’s skin color when describing her in the books, only mentioning her brown eyes, frizzy hair and her being very clever. Now I don’t mind what color Hermione’s skin is, as long as it is the clever and slightly bossy Hermione we know and love from the books.

I think in a way we are sort of spoiled with having the same actors and actresses  playing in the movies for ten years and that we are just used to see those faces when we think of someone in the Harry Potter Universe. Therefore some people find it hard to accept that someone else is now playing that role, especially when he or she doesn’t look anything like the person playing in the movies. And how many times exactly did Lavender Brown changed skin color in the movies….

The epilogue hardly gave a good look at what Rose looked like, but I’m just gonna say she looks like Rose to me (and a good combination between Ron and Hermione) and I can’t wait to see her in action! But again I’m missing Hugo, Rose’s little brother in the family pictures. But hopefully he show’s up in the play somewhere, it wouldn’t be the same without him.

What do you think about the casting? Or maybe you’ve already seen the actors in their roles, we’d love to hear what you think!

Next week I’ll be covering the most loved and (slightly very, very slightly) bad guy Draco and his family.
