At The Mindy Project’s FYC Emmy event in June, Mindy Kaling revealed to E! Online that the fourth season of the show is not going in the direction everyone seems to think it will go.
It’s safe to assume she’s referring to the generally hated Mindy&Jody relationship that some are sure is happening because of Dr. K’s recent feelings for Dr. Lahiri. She says that she wants to preserve these twists and turns & not reveal too much but she’s “excited for people to see it because everyone just gets really certain that it’s going to be a certain way and, I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but there is some big left turns that I’m excited about.“
At the same event, she talked about her decision to directly address the criticism about the absence of the baby (& lack of constant mention) on the show when she’s on a dating story or at work; “I just thought, that’s how it should be. You shouldn’t scrutinize it. You should trust the characters to do that. And I just wanted to call out a double standard that I saw.”

Lastly she revealed that season 4 ends on a major cliffhanger and that they’ve just started breaking the stories for season 5. “It’s always fun when you get back in the [writers] room and go, ‘OK, how are we going to extricate ourselves from this?’ So that’s been fun.“
