Last week, Jeremy was Leo’s acting coach, Hot Drew was like ew babies all the time ew, the nurses played musical chairs with the doctors they assist and Mindy made a mistake while in a vulnerable state – let’s dive in

We start out in the break room, Morgan brings in Mindy’s mail with an adorable (or unsettling for an adult) train noise – she grabs “Showbiz Digest East” with the cast of Blue Bloods on the cover (heyyyy NBCU integration I see you) and sees that Tides Of Tomorrow is casting for a biracial baby! She just happens to HAVE a biracial baby! Morgan & Jody are all “it’s a bad idea, look what happened to Leonardo DiCaprio (aka it took him a really long time to get his Oscar) but she’s like YOLO he’s going.

Later, Mindy is walking & rambling on about baby lifts to Morgan but enters her office and sees Colette instead. She & Jody aren’t currently speaking because they don’t agree that his girlfriend is a boring loser. Mindy totally gets it, she’s ignoring Rishi because he won’t admit that she’s hot. Unlike Morgan though, Colette is not used to being at Mindy’s beck and call, getting her lunch or brushing her hair (200 strokes). We flash to Morgan in Jody’s office, trying to give him his mid-day brushing and be at his beck & call but Jody is not having it.

DUN DUN DUN DUN DOODOO DOODOODOODOO

Mindy and Leo are at the casting call for Tides of Tomorrow. All the babies are super professional and Leo is dressed up in what I’m assuming is a cute outfit – I looked away for most of this because ew babies. Mindy meets a mom – my queen Tracie Thoms – there whose baby was cast as e-trade baby’s ethnic friend and she gives her some baby audition tips. Both Leo & Noah get picked for the show and Mindy is super excited that Leo succeeded at auditioning using her hot genes.

She struts into the office to announce to everyone that Leo is now a soap star. She rattles off some party instructions for Colette, who already had to go to Chinatown and get her breast enhancement cream and was feeling overworked already. Jeremy gets super excited and starts fangirling because he LOVES Tides Of Tomorrow. Since he played “fondled man” on SVU, he volunteers to help prepare Leo for the audition so he doesn’t get replaced with the next pretty young thing.

In the break-room, Colette is angrily trying to staple Leo’s picture to a round cake because Mindy asked for it on the frosting (lolololol). Morgan walks in and informs her that Dr. L refuses to eat round cakes because there are no edges with extra frosting. Also we all know she likes gigantic cakes and this one was just regular sized. While Colette is suffering with Mindy, Jody gave Morgan his very first break so he’s loving it over there. When she finds out Jody is at an outlet mall with Fartney getting more yankee candles, she loses her temper and smashes the cake. #RIPCake

Over at Mindy’s, Jeremy is giving her tips about behaving on set because child acting is much more about the parent. She’s not supposed to act star struck OR create drama on set. Hot Dimpled Drew calls and wants to hang out with her at one of those museums she isn’t banned from but when she asks him to come over and come help Leo rehearse, he quickly backs out hmmm not a fan of babies are we, Dimples? Mindy walks back into her living room where Jeremy is doing an accent so she attempts an adorably terrible one and Leo gives them both side eye.

The next day on a set that looks just like the Telenovela one (more NBU Family integration, I dig it, very cool, #RIPTelenovela) Mindy & other mom Cathy are hanging out in the green room when the showrunner (missed opportunity for a Warby cameo) comes by and picks Leo as the hero baby aka the one that’ll be used in most of the scenes. As they’re taking him away to prep for the scene, Mindy is screaming things at him excitedly including “I love you” and “don’t let me steal all your money!”

Leo slays his scene and all goes well, not for Desmond who found out the baby wasn’t just a really tan white baby, but well for everyone we care about. They call cut and move on to the next scene which is the boat crash. Mindy’s like damn they already did a boat crash and Cathy wants her baby to be the hero baby so she sabotages Mindy and tells her to tell someone about the double boat crash thing, since Min wants the credit for potentially saving the show, she takes Cathy’s advice and goes to find the head writer.

Back in B-plot land, Colette is in Jeremy’s office, trying to switch from working with Mindy to working with him. Jer is reluctant because he & Tamra work so well together, he tells her to do things and she tells him why she’s too busy to do them. He tells her to go back to Jody but she refuses to do that while he’s dating Barfney. Out of the blue, they’re like “you know who could end this feud? Forbes!” and we’re so like oh okay we’re bringing back this random brother no one cares about for whaaaat? Anyways, to help end the feud, Dr. Reed agrees to let Tamra & Colette switch.

We head back to set where Mindy has found the head writer and is gushing all over him and his Emmy worthy work – which is pretty much what I would be like were I allowed to be a fly on the wall of the set of TMP cough cough wink wink MK & co. I wouldn’t give notes I would just be there like I loved it when X & Y & Z and maybe I’d hug Stassen & definitely hang out with and fangirl all over Sal and ask him for outfit tips but like in a cool non threatening way – all this to say I’ll be in LA from August 3rd to 13th, hit me up gurl! Euuh what was I talking about? Oh yeah so Mindy gives him her note about the boat crash and he maintains that the first one was a shipwreck so those are different things but she insists that eh they’re the same so he just says yeah okay thanks in a brush-offy way and leaves.

At Shulman, Colette is just strutting about with her cup of noodles when Tamra sneaks up on her, making her spill it all, and confronts her about taking her job with Dr. Reed. Queen T really doesn’t wanna work for Mindy, who once made her go to her high school reunion as her (lolz). She shuts the switch thing down, calls Jeremy, who runs over to her, to tell her she’s back with him and he apologizes for the confusion and gives her an extra hour at lunch for her troubles. #KWEEN

The next day, we find that Leo is really embracing his celeb status by trashing his crib. Mindy puts Colette in charge of a viewing party for Leo’s big break but she doesn’t want to be involved in the process, she just wants Colette to read her mind the way that Morgan would’ve. She goes into her office and calls Hot Dimpled Drew to invite him to Leo’s viewing party but he comes up with an excuse to not go, promising to watch the episode though. Mindy seems a little bummed but she’s like kay bye.

It’s party time! Colette has decorated the conference room beautifully and got the baked brie right on the third try (can I have the two failed attempts?!) so she’s really impressed with herself but then Mindy doesn’t want the brie because it’ll be too heavy, and Colette can’t take it anymore. Colette is like you want a wife not a nurse and Mindy is like I HAD A WIFE shows picture of Morgan on her phone. She tells her to suck it up and just go work for Jody again, saying that dating Courtney is better than dating the college girls, tequila reps and his sister in law. Colette DIDN’T KNOW about the Anne-Marie thing but she pretends like she did and runs off to Jody’s office. He’s all smug like ooh you come to get your job back and Colette gets all up in his face about sleeping with their brothers wife.

We cut to the viewing party where Leo’s scene is about to come on while the Kimball-Kinneys are still fighting. Jeremy and Mindy are so excited and nervous about Leo’s scene they’re making love eyes at each other and holding Leo’s hands from either side. BUT Leo has been recast gasp; Noah was the hero baby – and Beverly thinks he’s a real cute baby unlike Leo.

image

Source: The Mindy Project // Hulu

Mindy’s all WTF how dare they but the show cuts to Jody and Colette’s fight as he’s trying to explain himself – I’m pretty sure you can’t have a good reason for sleeping with your brothers wife but go ahead and try bro. All of a sudden, Forbes comes in! And he’s old – like maybe he’s their father? Also he’s an uggo. Okay so back to the plot, Forbes is verrrrrrry biased against Colette and keeps taking Jody’s side so she just leaves without telling him what the fight is about.

Meanwhile, Jeremy is pacing Mindy’s office and CAN’T BELIEVE that she would ignore his rules of stage-mommery and give a note to the head writer. He also reminds her of rule 9 – which was “stage mothers don’t have friends they just have enemies they haven’t stabbed in the back yet.” That bitch Cathy set her up so she wants a Vendetta day and looks for her brass knuckles but Jer stops her, tells her that maybe Leo isn’t cut out for a cool job like being an actor.

Back to the Kimball men – Forbes is thanking Jody for TAKING GOOD CARE OF ANNE-MARIE while he was at war. He felt safe knowing that whatever AM needed Jody would give to her good. Jody can’t take it so he fesses up by using a bible verse (I think). Forbes barely reacts at all, says it’s between Jody and God – but he does punch him once, which frankly was very necessary.

Jody heads over to Colette’s house after he takes a beating. He explains that the Anne-Marie thing was a mistake (duh) and that he like Courtney because she’s an adult – if that’s someone’s only quality, they probably suck, but this isn’t about me. Colette explains that she’s annoyed about Courtney because she’s ordinary and Jody deserves someone special. Morgan is reading Divergent in the bunk above them – he had no plans but he doesn’t wanna talk about it – and tells them to shut up because their conversation went from juicy to sad.

That same night, Mindy and Drew are having dinner and she’s distracted because she’s still bummed about Tides Of Tomorrow. Drew is like oh yeah hey Leo was so good – obviously having not watched and just talking out of his ass. Mindy’s upset because it was important to her & Leo and because he didn’t come over the other night. He says he “put in his time” over the weekend and just wanted to be with her alone. They break up because Leo is the most important person in her life and the guy she’s with needs to be as excited about his as she is and not think of it as putting in the time. Bye Hot Drew, I’ll miss your dimples the most.

The next day at work, she’s packing up her showbiz magazines when Jody knocks at her door. She’s humiliated because she broke up with her boyfriend AND her son will never win a Golden Globe so she’s like go away but he comes in anyway. She looks up and sees him all beat up. She thinks he asked Tamra about her hair and she did this to him – giving everyone an important reminder to not ask black women about their hair and to DEFINITELY not touch their hair!

image

Source: The Mindy Project // Hulu

He’s like no no I came to say that I saw the soap and was disappointed Leo wasn’t in it. She’s like aww you watched and he says he watched on his computer, and the network website was crazy complicated, made him register and watch the same Lipitor commercial 3 times, and then he sees some rando baby without an ounce of Leo’s star power. He even says Leo should stick with it and try auditioning more. All this to say that he’s literally saying all the right things at the right time and being excited about Leo and Mindy is super vulnerable and probably wondering if she’ll ever meet someone who’ll love Leo the way he’s meant to be loved so she leans in and kisses him! AAH END EPISODE

image

Source: The Mindy Project // Hulu

I was real mad about this kiss on Tuesday because I feel Lahiri can do better than Jody (I also think she can do better than Danny!) but I get it, she was vulnerable and he has the hot jerk qualities that Danny had early on. Also I never hated Jody the way that some people did – I thought he was funny. Anyway there are 2 episodes left and supposedly it doesn’t go where we think it’s gonna go – so let’s all take a breath & #InKalingWeTrust. I give it 4/5 nerd glasses, I had to deduct a point because there were a lot of babies around this week lol.
