After the first half of this finale I was very curious on how this would end. Once we found out that Missy was The Master, we were in for a plot that would challenge The Doctor. However using the dead to fuel her army of Cybermen was one part that shocked me. After being a fan of the show for a few years, I thought no concept can surprise me yet I found myself stunned. Not only at Missy but at Michelle Gomez’s performance. She stole this episode with her deranged, deluded, and insane version of the Master. Shannon referred her as “a bad Mary Poppins on drugs.” She was was able to stand out in a cast of already stellar actors. I really hope she will return because I feel she mastered her character.

Danny Pink also grew in this finale. Seeing him in the “Nethersphere” and refusing to delete his emotion made him a much stronger character. Pink was the first character in New Who that I didn’t like very much. Yet I found myself rooting for him and impressed by Samuel Anderson performance by the final act of the episode. Despite being transformed into a Cyberman, Pink stilled cared enough to save Clara. This was something some people viewed as cheesy but I felt this was something that was a part of Doctor Who as a show. The ability to care for someone and the willingness to do anything to help even if it seemed impossible. Seeing Pink and Clara relationship evolving reminded me of The Tenth Doctor and Rose relationship.
Seeing the Cybermen used in this manner was refreshing and showed that they can still evolved as a threat to both The Doctor and Earth. I just wish we saw a bit more of the Cybermen reeking havoc across the globe. While Capaldi gave another great performance in the finale. Capaldi built enough momentum to end the season on a high note. He was indeed not a hero, a villain, an overly compassionate human, but a madman with a box.

However I couldn’t help to feel the ending was a bit anti climactic. I would have rather seeno Missy put up a final fight instead of handing her self over to The Doctor along with her army. It seem that the ending was solved all to perfectly. But I will say seeing the return of Brigadier and the departing of Clara gave me the feels. Along with wanting more.
And the post end scene was a real treat to get us ready for The Christmas special….

“I’m not a good man! I’m not a bad man! I’m not a hero! I’m not a President! And no, I’m not an officer! You know who I am? I am an idiot with a box and a screwdriver, passing through, helping out. And I don’t need an army, I never have.” – The Doctor
