Ever since the days of the GameStop $5 I have always waited for games to go on sale before purchasing them. I have never needed to have the latest and greatest and I still have a backlog of unplayed games. With that in mind I do not see a reason to start buying games when they come out now! So in order to keep track of the games from this year I will be playing in the future, here is my list of the games that I am most interested in from 2025.

Avowed

Obsidian has done some great work in the past and their open world fantasy game Avowed is one I have heard of over and over again. While this is a genre that I personally feel is pretty overcrowded, it is also one I come back to again and again. With a great team backing it and such a comfortable setting, how could this game go badly? Avowed is a game I will get to as soon as a sale is good enough.

Surprising no one, I am also excited to get to play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Sweeping the Game Awards this year simply heightened my excitement for it. First of all, a turn based combat system in 2025! All of the gods have answered my prayers. As someone who grew up on PS1 era JRPGs I love this format. Combine that with what I hear is an incredible story and some of the most beautiful music I have heard in video games in a long time. There is no overstating my excitement for this game.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII

Along with my love of turned based combat, you might guess I also love strategy games. Sid Meier’s Civilization has been a series that has long been near and dear to my heart. Since the first game there has been a point of zen I reach once that perfect “One More Turn” formula is reached. This flow state has been a meditative state that has helped me through many tough parts of my life. So when a new entry in this series was announced I was excited beyond belief. Not every entry in this series is a perfect game, but each one is worth trying. Once all the expansions have been released I will be sure to pick this one up and see if it topples Civilization V as the best of the Civilization games.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2

Paradox Interactive

For anyone that has been following my posts, there should be no surprise Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 is on this list. After twenty years we finally get the sequel to one of the best tabletop to video game adaptations there are. While the silence around this game post release has me worried about it, there isn’t a chance in hell I won’t be picking this up as soon as there is a good sale.

Outer Worlds 2

Here was a game I had so much hope for. Like so many other games I wanted to pick it up a couple of years after release so I could get all the expansions for a discount. Overall I did like my time with the first game. But, I felt like the game was missing something, or I missed something. There was a great world built around a level of satire and tongue-in-cheek humor that should keep me enthralled. That said this is exactly where I think a sequel can come in and be an amazing game. A solid foundation but a bigger budget and more time to spend on the story and less on the world. I will be excited to pick this up once it is fully expanded.

This was a game a friend sent me the trailer for a couple weeks before it came out. I had not heard of it but thought the trailer looked good and was excited to see a Telltale style game coming out again. Since then it has received amazing reviews and critical acclaim. Story focused and fun art? Definitely worth a try to me!

Date Everything!

Does anyone remember Dream Daddy? I loved that game. It was witty, heartfelt, and charming. Writing that good convinced me that dating sims could be really good games. Fully changed my stance on the genre. Date Everything! looks like it follows that tradition of game design. With fun characters, interesting art, and fun ideas, Date Everything! is one I will be sure to pick up eventually.

Are you looking forward to any of these games hitting a sale so you can scoop it up? Which games from 2025 did I miss I should keep an eye out for? Make sure to leave your suggestions in the comments below!
