I’m afraid I spent most of this week being annoyed at various people in Erinsborough (again). It comes to something when one of the few people I didn’t get annoyed at this week is Paul. Let’s break it all down.

I Don’t Think Krista is Cut Out For Fostering

In the wake of Nicolette not being pregnant, Krista realises that she doesn’t actually want to enter into a parenting arrangement with her. It’s totally understandable that caring for a newborn might be triggering for her after what happened to Hope, but she was having doubts before they went ahead and did the insemination. She’s been obviously unsure for ages, and I can’t understand why she hasn’t said something before now. If she had even the slightest doubt about it she should have spoken up. What if Nicolette had been pregnant? What would she have done then?

She decides instead that she’d quite like to foster instead, despite having upset Addison more times in the very short time she’s been staying with her and Leo, than I’ve changed my socks. Addison even heard Krista saying she wanted to foster a kid, but not Addison, which she then has to repeat to her face. One of the things you have to do when fostering is to navigate the relationship between the foster child and any biological relatives who might still have access, and Krista has made quite the mess of dealing with Addison’s dad too. Do we really think she has what it takes to be a foster parent? Because I don’t.

Holly and Andrew Do a Tour of the Street

These two can’t seem to leave well enough alone. The street is still reeling from the revelation that Holly is pregnant with her best friend’s dad’s baby, and yet the pair of them seem to think that now is the ideal time to do a tour of the neighbourhood provoking everyone.

Andrew keeps wandering into houses where he knows he’s not welcome, whether that’s the Kennedys’ or his own house. He even tries to speak to Karl in the street and almost gets his butt kicked by him because he keeps insisting that the two of them are part of some sort of brotherhood because they’ve both had trouble keeping their gentleman’s agreements inside their trousers.

Despite being warned against it, Holly is dead set on talking to Wendy. I don’t know what the hell she thinks she could ever say to make what her and Andrew have done any better, but she goes round and basically forces Wendy into a conversation with her. Firstly, Wendy was reading, and that is the worst time to try to talk to anyone about anything. Secondly, it should be up to Wendy if and when she speaks to Holly, and she’s well within her rights to never speak to her again. The only reason Holly wants to talk to her is to assuage her own guilt, and that is not Wendy’s problem.

Sadie Stinkface

The rest of the street might be giving Andrew and Holly more time and attention than they deserve, but Sadie is having absolutely none of either of them. If she’s not tearing a strip off them, she’s storming about in the background wearing the queen of all stinkfaces, and I am here for it. Telling Holly that she’d “pulled an Izzy” was glorious. Go Sadie.

Wendy Sets a Test

After all the conversations she’s been forced into having with both Andrew and Holly, Wendy does an about turn and tells Andrew that he should be with Holly and try to make a go of it as a family. She later admits to Sadie that this is a sort of test to see what they do. I’m not sure I see the point of this. Either she’s just given her husband her blessing to run off with the person he’s impregnated on the side, or she’s in exactly the same position she is now, with a husband she can’t trust, who is about to have a baby with someone else. What does this achieve?

Max is Too Nice

Holly and Andrew both also try to talk to Max, who understandably doesn’t want to speak with either of them. He instead decides to do some sad reverse woodworking, and is on the verge of smashing the rocking horse he was restoring for what he thought was his first child.

Jane pops up to be cute with Max again, giving him a pep talk and then offering to help him finish the horse so that at least someone can get some enjoyment out of it. Max eventually decides to give it to Holly anyway, and the pair of them call a truce. Max is way too nice for his own good, but him being sad and angry also doesn’t sit well with me, so if this is what it takes for him to move on then I love that for him. Holly doesn’t deserve his forgiveness or his rocking horse, and I hope she realises how much it took for him to make that gesture, although I doubt it.

A Few Random Notes

As usual, here are a few random notes I took while watching Neighbours this week:

  • Krista, people wouldn’t walk in in the middle of sensitive conversations if they couldn’t just get a lift into the middle of your living room without announcing themselves first.
  • Paul’s shirt is incredibly tight. Not really sure why they suddenly decided to reinvent Paul’s look, mere weeks from the end of the show, but OK.
  • “Is it OK I’m here?” No. READ THE ROOM, ANDREW.
  • Karl keeps saying there’s no comparison between what Andrew did and what Karl did. The situations might not have been exactly the same but there is SOME comparison.
  • Why can’t Holly understand why Wendy is blanking her?? Is she an alien?
  • Paul’s pep talk to Max is ADORABLE.
  • I’m living for Sadie’s stinkfaces.
  • Zac is supposedly experienced as a hotelier but he didn’t think anyone would notice all the free comps?
