Ten years ago, Hamilton premiered its very first Broadway show at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on August 6, 2015. Little did they know then that history would have its eyes on this show, and for good reason. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s lyrics, songwriting abilities, casting, and direction caused Hamilton to skyrocket in popularity, and fast.
Hamilton, a show that focuses on the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of this nation, has a score composed with hip-hop and R&B beats reaching people far and wide. With its diverse cast and center on an immigrant who gets the job done, Hamilton not only highlights and educates audiences about American history, but creates a legacy that has lasted 10 years.
To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, Hamilton was released into theatres across the country for its own theatrical release on the big screen. This gave so many the chance to see the show in person, with its original cast, who were not able to see it on stage, live back in 2015. While the entire program is available to stream on Disney+, which premiered on the platform in 2020, this special release started up the Hamilton hyper-fixation again for many fans.
BRING IT BACK TO THE TONY AWARDS
The Tony Awards are a program that recognizes the excellence of Broadway shows, actors, actresses, and directors. This year’s 2025 program, which was held on June 8th, had some extra special guests that celebrated one of Broadway’s most popular shows—Hamilton.
Lin Manuel-Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Jonathan Groff are just a few names of the cast and ensemble that returned to the Tonys stage! The cast celebrated their 10th anniversary of being on Broadway with a remix of some of Hamilton’s most popular songs including, “My Shot”, “The Schuyler Sisters”, “Non-Stop”, “The Room Where It Happens”, and “You’ll Be Back”.
The return of the cast and ensemble was an extraordinary moment for fans of the production—it’s been a very long time since a Hamilton reunion on this scale has occurred! Not only did it bring some tears to the crowd, but the audience was singing along and giving a standing ovation at the end of the mash-up.

ALEXANDER, COME BACK TO SLEEP
Eliza, before Hamilton meets Aaron Burr for a duel: “Alexander, come back to sleep.”
Alexander: “I have an early meeting out of town.“
Eliza: “It’s still dark outside.”
Alexander: “I know, I just need to write something down.”
Those lines from Hamilton in a regular context don’t add up to much, but if you add some funny facial expression and a trend on TikTok, this dialogue between a man and wife becomes hilarious. Just in time for Hamilton’s anniversary release in the theatres, Hamil-tok exploded with a ridiculously funny trend that involved women dressing up as Hamilton himself, trying to escape from his home without Eliza noticing.
The trend, originating from user @actuallyhamilt0n on TikTok, spread far and wide in a matter of days. Others soon joined in on the trend, kickstarting a whole new interpretation for the Hamilton soundtrack song, “Best of Wives and Best of Women”. Whether Alexander Hamilton’s attire was a full-blown 18th century costume including breeches and a vest, or a piece of tissue used to recreate a neckerchief, these videos skyrocketed and caught the attention of the Hamilton cast themselves.
The top creators of the trend were all invited to the casts red carpet and screening of Hamilton at Delacorte Theater in New York City, meeting Lin and the ensemble, interviewing and asking questions. It was a perfect way to celebrate how fans continue to love the musical, and also show just how much the cast appreciate the fans, their interpretations, and their silliness. During the show at the premiere, from their seats, Lin Manuel-Miranda and Phillipa Soo recreated their own version of the trend, bringing the laughs to the forefront of the audience. The trend became so popular that people started to recreate the video from the perspective of Eliza, continuing the gender-bend of the roles, with males in nightgowns, cosplaying Eliza, and wondering where their husband was off to in the middle of the night. The fun of these roles and the attention it received has made it one of the best viral trends of 2025!
LESLIE ODOM JR. RETURNS TO THE STAGE
Continuing the celebrations, Leslie Odom Jr. who famously played the original Aaron Burr in Hamilton, has returned to the stage! From September 9th to November 26th, in New York City, Leslie Odom Jr. is reprising his role to thunderous applause and cheers.
The limited run was announced back in April of this year, and tickets were sold out soon afterwards. Leslie Odom Jr’s homecoming to celebrate the production’s 10th year on stage demonstrates just how well-loved his character is, and how popular the show continues to be, even after 10 years.
People and fans are flooding to Broadway just to get a glimpse of Aaron Burr. We all want to be in the room where it happens!
10 YEARS AND COUNTING
The hype for Hamilton is long from over. What Lin Manuel-Miranda created was an unforgettable team collaboration of art, music, history, and dancing that has inspired so many young people, and will only continue to do so. Unlike any musical production, the combination of education, rap, and ballads shows us just how important and impactful the arts can be.
Celebrate Hamilton this year with your friends and family, with a sing-a-long watch party, or by dressing up as Alexander Hamilton himself!
