If spooky skeletons, creepy ghouls, and jump scares are essential parts of the spooky Halloween season for you, then look no further than this list of ten new horror games coming out this year.
No, I’m not a Human
Coming quickly down the release schedule is the first entry on this list, “No, I’m not a Human”. Taking place during the apocalypse, the game promises to be a paranoia-fueled simulation about surviving the end of times. Who will you let into your shelter? What will you do when desperate measures are needed? Explore those ideas in this terrifying entry. If this style of pressured decision making is something you think would be fun, you won’t have to wait long. This game is slotted to release September 15th.
Dying Light: The Beast
Our next entry is “Dying Light: The Beast”. Continuing Dying Light’s use of day/night cycles, the newest entry in the series introduces Kyle Crane. A man with beast DNA, allowing him incredible strength and durability. But with that power comes new zombie types and environments that keep the familiar feeling of Dying Light. Players who already purchased the Ultimate Edition of “Dying Light 2: Stay Human” will receive “Dying Light: The Beast” at no additional charge! So for all those that are excited for more parkour zombie apocalypse action, this game drops on September 18th.
Silent Hill F
Another sequel, “Silent Hill F” promises to be a return to formula for the franchise. Bringing back the oppressive atmosphere of the early games, “Silent Hill F” takes place in a new town. Evisugaoka, a small Japanese town which has been engulfed in a sudden fog and home to Hinako, our protagonist. She must navigate the strange and twisting paths of her home town in order to discover the dark secrets within. Anyone looking for more of Silent Hill’s signature psychological terror will be looking for this game to drop September 25th.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
Easily one of the most anticipated games of 2025 is next, “Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2” (VtM:B2). VtM:B2 promises to be a thrilling adventure into the vampire underworld of Seattle. In this game players will take on the role of The Nomad. An elder vampire that has just awoken after a century long nap into the modern night. These modern nights are crawling with new dangers that The Nomad must learn to navigate in order to survive. If treacherous social circles, ferocious bestial combat, and in depth role playing with a horror twist excites you then check out this game coming October 21st.
Tormented Souls 2
Next on the list is Tormented Souls 2. In this sequel to the 2021 award winning game, players once again take on the role of Caroline Walker. After the events of the last game, Caroline has been left with horrific visions. These have caused her to seek aid with a mysterious clinic in the remote Chilean town of Villa Hess. However, not long after arriving in town Caroline starts to notice oddities about the staff of the clinic. So begins an entirely new nightmare. Using supernatural powers, Caroline must bend the fabric of reality to save her sister from a sinister cult in this survival horror adventure releasing October 23rd.
Dark Fracture
Continuing with the idea of changing realities, our next entry is “Dark Fracture”. A game that promises to let players explore an ever-changing world. Centered around a mentally disturbed protagonist who isn’t sure what is real and what isn’t even before the start of the game. It starts off, this game shapes up to be a terrifying exploration of the human psyche. Constantly questioning what is real or what is simply his mind playing tricks on you, “Dark Fracture” will likely keep you on your toes for the entire playthrough. Developer Twisted II Studio is hoping for a 2025 release date and I would love to put this on my Halloween playlist.
Project Mist
In an unusual direction for horror games, “Project Mist” is an open world survival game. In this game the player is dropped on a supposedly empty island. As the player explores they quickly learn that they aren’t the only person on the island. Moreso there are other things inhabiting the island. Soon players are building defenses to prepare for the onslaught of colossal monsters aiming to destroy everything the player has. Those wanting to test their spirit in this unforgiving nightmare will have to wait though. All the steam page says is that developer Chicken Launcher hopes for a Q4 2025 release date.
Routine
Lastly for this list let me introduce “Routine”. For those waiting for more news about the “Alien: Isolation” sequel, this might be the perfect holdover. Designed around an 80s vision of the future, “Routine” takes place on an isolated lunar base. When unexplained circumstances leave the player character alone, an eerie feeling of dread begins to creep in. Soon, monsters of unknown origin appear and put the player on the run. As they determine what happened to this base and where everyone has gone. Luckily the game is listed for a release date in Q4 2025.
With so many terrifying entries in this list, spooky game nights are likely to shake you to your core all month long. Which games are you likely to try out? Any that look too scary for you? Let us know in the comments below.
