The next World of Warcraft (WOW) expansion, Midnight, was given a spotlight at Gamescom 2025, with tons of insight into all the new content and features coming in the expansion. Midnight is the second expansion of three in the World Soul Saga of WOW, which is a six-year story to save the world of Azeroth in WOW. This new expansion of the World Soul Saga is set to release in early Summer 2026 but could be even earlier. There is so much new and updated content/features coming in Midnight, so let’s get right into it.

New Story and Zones. Patch 11.2 of the current expansion, The War Within, brought players and the main villain of the World Soul Saga, Xal’atath, together. In Manaforge Omega, they defeated the void lord – Dimensius, the All-Devouring – and saved K’aresh, the world of the Etherals, from being devoured. This was all in an effort to get the Dark Heart, a relic used to control void lords. However, Xal’atath tricked the players, using this temporary alliance to gain the powers of the void lord Dimensius. Going into Midnight, Xal’atath seeks to destroy the Sun Well, Azeroth’s source of light and life to make Azeroth livable. The players’ goal in Midnight is to stop her. In this pursuit, players will go back to the Blood Elf homes of Silvermoon city. There, they will have to quell the encroachment of the void in new and old zones alike, Harandar, Quel’Thalas, Voidstorm, and Zul’Aman. Within these zones, players will be able to level up to a max level of 90.

New Allied Race and Demon Hunter Specialization. From the new zone, Harandar, there is a new allied race that players can play as – the Haranir. This new race can utilize nine different classes, druid, hunter, mage, monk, priest, rogue, shaman, warlock, and warrior. Unfortunately, they are not elvish and cannot be demon hunter, which is getting a new specialization called Devourer. This new spec is mid-range DPS, void themed, and was teased with the fifth boss of the current raid, Manaforge Omega. Unlike other demon hunter specs, Devourer will use Intellect as its main damage stat and the two hero talents associated with it are Scarred (currently known as Fel-Scarred) and the new hero talent, Annihilator.

New Content. Coming with Midnight, there is a ton of new content and reimagined old content. There will be 12 new Delves, a solo/team content introduced in The War Within; eight new dungeons; three new raids, all in the first season of the expansion; and a new open world system called Prey. Delves and dungeons are pretty self-explanatory, but the three raids are unprecedented for a single season in current WOW. The three raids are called The Voidspire, The Dreamright, and March on Quel’Danas. The first two will be released at the same time and respectively with six and one boss. The March on Quel’Danas will release a few weeks after the first two and will have two bosses – totaling nine bosses across all three raids. Prey, the new open world system, is basically a hunting system where players can follow quests and clues to find and defeat powerful enemies.

Player Housing. A long-awaited feature for many WOW fans, players will now have a dedicated home for their characters. This will be released in the last patch of the current expansion, 11.2.7, and at this point players can do old and current content alike to start gathering the new collectables, Decorations. Unsurprisingly, these decorations can be used to decorate the player house. There is also a rumor about a neighborhood system that allows players to live next to friends and easily visit their houses, but there’s not much more information about that.

UI and other Features. As WOW tried to become a more complete game, there will be a ton of new UI augmenting and “add-on” related features. The goal of this is to allow players to make the game look and feel however they want it to without having to install third-party add-ons. For example, a long-time staple add-on of WOW, Damage Meters, which allows all players to track their own and other players damage, will now be added to the base game of WOW in Midnight. There are several other examples of this coming at the beginning of Midnight, and many planned for other major patches in Midnight.

Other Notable Midnight Announcements. The Transmogrification system that allows players to customize their gear to look like other pieces of gear is getting revamped. There will be a new PVP 40 v. 40 battlefield and new open world PVP areas. An updated new and returning player experience that allows players to more quickly play through the main points of old lore to get into the new content faster.
