Warner Bros. can dread it; they can run from it. Coyote vs. ACME will still arrive all the same, and its all thanks to the fans. And now the movie and its fans are celebrating in the best way possible: taking a victory lap at San Diego Comic Con.
If you’ve been following my posts on The Game of Nerds for a while, you’ll know I’ve spoken a lot about Coyote vs. ACME. What should’ve been a legal comedy about Wile E. Coyote seeking justice against ACME became a story of life imitating art when Warner Bros. unfairly canceled it. It took the fans months of protesting the decision online, but it was worth it when Ketchup Entertainment announced they got the rights to distribute the film. None of this could have been possible without the fans, though, and that’s why the film is celebrating its win with them at Comic Con this year.
And celebrate they did.
Warner Bros Was Wrong about Everything
The panel began at 10:00 am local time, and from the outset, the fans continued to prove how big a mistake Warner Bros. was going to make. Despite Zaslav believing no one would want to see Coyote vs ACME, fans turned out in the thousands to see the panel. Multiple people on Twitter confirmed that the hall was almost at full capacity.
As for the people running the panel, notable guests included the director of Coyote vs ACME Dave Green, cast members Eric “Bugs Bunny” Bauza, Martha Kelly, and Will Forte. Later on, fans were treated to a surprise appearance from none other than Wile E. Coyote himself in all his greatness. The panel itself was moderated by Paul Scheer.
Almost right off the bat, the panel started marketing the film in the best way possible. A man playing a lawyer from the ACME Corporation barged in with a cease and desist order demanding that the film not be shown. Obviously, this was just a marketing joke, but for those mad at the film’s treatment, it might as well have been someone from Warner themselves. Thankfully, the audience got some catharsis by booing the lawyer out of the room.
After the panel was underway, though, the people on stage let everyone know that they were the real heroes. He and everyone else had all but given up hope of Coyote vs ACME ever seeing the light of day, but the fans weren’t having any of it. They looked a major corporation in the eye and made them cave in. Everyone loves underdogs for a good reason, and when one of the biggest underdogs needed help, we made sure he won. And for that, everyone who worked on the film is grateful to us. They spoke about how much the fans fought for the movie, picketing and protesting and tweeting and creating a storm that a certain company couldn’t ignore. However, they never actually used Warner Bros’ name, always referring to it as ACME. At this point, though, everyone already sees Warner Bros. As ACME.
Someone Get me Footage of the Clips of Coyote vs ACME please
The fun was only getting started, though. The audience was treated to not one, but two extended clips from the film. In the first one, we saw Wile E. Coyote remembering a montage of the countless times he had tried, and failed, to catch the Roadrunner. And it was all played to the late Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt,” which only made it funnier. The scene then ends with Wile seeing an infomercial for Will Forte’s attorney character, setting the plot of the film in motion.
In the second clip, we got to see the first day of Will’s character and Wile in court. I dont know if footage will get leaked, but according to the description from Screen Rant, it doesn’t go well.
Coyote vs. ACME Will not Be Silenced
Unfortunately, the ACME lawyer came back with reinforcements and escorted the panelists off the stage to end the panel. Just kidding! Paul Scheer ran back on stage and, apparently, showed the trailer for the film. No footage for it has leaked yet, but at least Coyote vs ACME has a release date: August 28th, 2026. That’s an awfully long amount of time, but its likely due to Ketchup need to get everything ready. That, and they probably want to use the year to market the film like crazy.
We now have one year until Coyote vs ACME hits theaters, and we need to make the most of it. Fans should continue promoting the film alongside Ketchup Entertainment, and make sure it gets the attention it deserves. When the time comes, the movie needs to break box-office records to spite Warner Bros. This needs to be a win of historic proportions. And you know that I will be covering it when the time comes!
