With the celebration for World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary still rolling, there is so much content to be done within the WOW franchise games. From esports events to new takes on old content and more, there is no shortage of things to do in WOW right now and within the months to come leading up to 2025. Let’s dive right into what is going on in WOW right now and in the near future!
Re-released on November 21, 2024, hardcore classic WOW is making a comeback. Millions of players are diving back into the servers where one death on a character makes players restart the entire game. These servers are essentially the set in WOW as it was in 2004 with the hardcore aspect added to it. Grinding to max level is long, generally taking weeks or months, and gearing is tough, all with the extra pressure of an in-game death equaling permanent character deletion. Hardcore classic lures in tons of streamers and hundreds of thousands of viewers with them. This generally leads to tournaments and other competitions in-game, making it a great way for players to make a name for themselves in the WOW universe.
Over the months of October and November, multiple retail WOW tournaments were being played as well. The Arena World Cup (AWC) finished up with the fan favorites, Echo, winning as they have in many other tournaments before. The Global Finals of the Mythic Dungeon International (MDI) for season one of The War Within wrapped on November 24, 2024, and for the first time in a few years, the Chinese region’s teams were included in this tournament. Upcoming in the new year, The Great Push (TGP) is another WOW esport that involves season one mythic plus dungeons. The major difference between the MDI and TGP is that the MDI is about doing the dungeons as fast as possible at set difficulties, while the TGP is about completing the dungeons on time on the hardest difficulty possible. Both tournaments are very cool and well worth watching as a WOW player.
The most exciting upcoming content will be coming in patches 11.0.7 and 11.1. Coming sometime in December 2024, 11.0.7 will add another zone to The War Within content. This new zone is called the Siren Isle and comes with new quests/events, mounts, achievements, gear, world bosses, and more. Along with Siren Isle, Plunderstorm will be coming back alongside the Siren Isle’s release. Plunderstorm is a WOW version of a Battle Royale game. While it is a very fun limited time event, it also awards mounts, achievements, transmogs, and toys that will be on a players WOW account forever.
Lastly, patch 11.1 will be by far the biggest content release out of any of the other content listed above. Coming in late winter of 2025, patch 11.1 will herald in season 2 of The War Within. This patch will bring in another new zone called Undermine, the goblin capital of WOW. Within this zone, there will be a new raid, the Liberation of Undermine; a new dungeon, Operation: Floodgate; new delves; and perhaps the coolest part, in-game driving that allows players to speed through the streets of Undermine. Of course, with all this new content, this means there will be new gear, new mythic plus dungeons, new reputations, new mounts, new achievements, and much more content along these lines.
A lot of cool content and events happening or going to happen soon in WOW, with even more coming later in 2025. See you around Azeroth playing all this fun, new content!
