With the World Championship coming to an end, the League of Legends gaming universe has big changes coming for season 15 in 2025. Patch 14.22 has a decent amount of these changes, but by no means all changes that players can expect coming into 2025. This patch could be considered the hype-up patch for future patches to come and second season of Arcane: A League of Legends Story, which premiered on November 8th, 2024 and is exclusively streaming on Netflix. This post will be an overview of patch 14.22 and how the new season of Arcane ties into this patch, as well as future patches leading up to 2025.
A quick recap on Arcane – the series tells the story of Piltover and its underbelly, Zaun within the League of Legends lore. It features the League of Legends characters Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce, Ekko, Viktor, and Heimerdinger with several other characters acting as side characters. This animated series depicts the stark difference between the utopia of Piltover and the dystopia of Zaun, showing how people changed based on their circumstances and interactions with other characters. The first season of Arcane set records on Netflix, being the most streamed series in history within its first week of release, and season two is likely going to do just as well.
The first major change in patch 14.22 is the addition of a new champion – Ambessa, the Matriarch of War. Also featured in Arcane, Ambessa is the general of the Piltover military that wages war against the Zaun and its chemically enhanced army of misfits. She is a highly mobile melee champion that wields chained fist blades and used energy instead of mana. While her role is still being determined, Ambessa will likely be a tanky bruiser that excels in the 1v1 fights and played in either the top or jungle roles.
Other notable changes include several Attack Damage item changes and over two dozen buffs/nerfs/adjustments to a variety of champions. Two of the champions receiving buffs are Vi, a main character in Arcane, and Warwick, who is meme’d on as being character in Arcane as well under the name of Vander, only becoming the werewolf Warwick after he is affected by new chemical concoction. All the other champions are not a part of the Arcane universe, but these changes are a signal to players that there will be significant changes to the meta starting in patch 14.22 and going forward into 2025.
All other changes regarding future patches for League of Legends have yet to be announced, but some players are predicting that Arcane will have a somewhat heavy influence on what the changes will look like. This prediction comes from the fact that new Teamfight Tactics (TFT) set releasing on November 20th, 2024 is completely centered around Arcane. This TFT set is the 13th set and is being called “Into the Arcane,” which many player are very excited about. This TFT set features nearly all of the characters from Arcane, both champions from the League of Legends base game and characters that are not in the game yet.
While League of Legends and TFT are technically two separate games, they both exist in the same lore universe and feature many of the same characters. Therefore, a logical conclusion is that TFT can inform what future patches for League of Legends might look like, and vice versa. Also, to be able to play TFT, players must have League of Legends installed unless they are playing on mobile, so these two games are heavily intertwined.
Once the contents of future patches League of Legends are released, you can expect to see more overviews like this one on The Game of Nerds. As stated above, much bigger changes are expected to come to League of Legends as we approach the new year and season 15 of League of Legends.
The League of Legends 14.22 patch is the 2nd of the Arcane series. it contains significant changes related to the season. The new champion Ambessa, meta changes and TFT’s Arcane-themed set hint at the future of the game. the 2025 season is coming with great innovations and the players are waiting with excitement.
Great overview! Excited to see how Ambessa and the Arcane tie-in will shake up the game next season.
