While I may be a casual gamer who cycles through the same 5 games every so often, I do sometimes find myself excited for new stories to add to my Steam wishlist. Here, I want to talk about 5 games that are coming out soon, ranging from one potentially being released by the time this article drops, to sometime next year.
- Neva
I first heard about Neva during this year’s Summer Game Fest back in early June where they dropped a trailer. The game, developed by Nomada Studios, is slated to release on October 15th of this year on PC, Switch, Xbox and PS5. It follows the journey of Alba, a young woman bonded with a young wolf cub. Through this journey, they venture through a dying world full of mysterious entities. It’s a very colorful and visually beautiful game, and seeing the trailer in June, its visuals was the first thing I noticed about the game. Plus I’m always a sucker for a human and animal duo.
- Deer & Boy
This has a similar idea to Neva in the sense that it is a human with an animal companion. However, Deer & Boy is about a young boy who decides to escape from reality after tragedy struck him. As he runs away, he meets a fawn and tames it. Throughout the game, they go on an adventure together where the deer gradually grows up and protects him from harm. The deer will help the boy find it in himself to grow and recover from his experience and come out stronger in the end. Created by Lifeline Games, Deer & Boy doesn’t have a set release date yet, but is anticipated to come out soon. If I had to guess, it’ll be at the end of this year or sometime next year on PC.
- Little Nightmares III
Now this is a game part of a franchise I love. After the complete and utter betrayal I felt at the end of Little Nightmares II, I didn’t actually expect a third game. However, the third installment is being created by Supermassive Games, the same developers as the original Until Dawn and Dark Anthology series. Tarsier Studios, the ones who made the LN franchise, has since moved onto other projects. LN3 will be a solo or multiplayer game following Low and Alone as they traverse through the Spiral and face enemies as they try to escape out of the Nowhere. This game was unfortunately delayed for sometime in 2025, but I’m just excited that there’s another installation of this series at all. It’s set to release on every major platform.
- REANIMAL
Created by Tarsier Studio, REANIMAL is their latest project in the works and while it deviates from their Little Nightmares franchise, it’s a whole new world with all new horrors. You have the option of playing co-op or alone as a brother and sister duo escape a ‘hellish island’ and save their missing friends, facing all kinds of nightmares and horror. While this is not canon to the previous LN franchise, it captures a similar haunting atmosphere of monsters chasing after children and using their wits to survive. Given that we’re already getting a third LN installment, I’m very excited to see what kind of new horror this studio creates. REANIMAL currently does not have a set release date but I want to wager it’ll be sometime next year, and playable on PC, Xbox and PS5.
- Judas
Created by Ghost Story Games and the creator of the Bioshock franchise, Judas is an upcoming narrative first person shooter game currently planned for release in March 2025. This game follows the titular Judas in a failing spaceship. In order to survive, Judas must rely on and betray their enemies if they hope to survive and ultimately decide if they live or die. I’ve been excited for this title since I heard about it during the 2022 Game Awards and especially for Ken Levine’s newest game since Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea in 2014. I’m a big fan of his work in Bioshock and eager to see a new story that deviates from that series.
