A couple things to go over to start, watch out for spoilers. Paramount Plus loaded all the episodes by accident and then tried to quickly delete them but some people downloaded them and have been sharing spoilers. It makes things a bit tough because I wanted to speculate on some things but it’s hard with knowing some things that I didn’t want to be subjected too. Secondly, this episode highlights a big problem with a 6 episode season. The pacing is extremely fast and it takes away from the believeability of some of what we are being fed.
Following Daryl Dixon
Losang is jealous of Daryl and how close he is with Laurent. The weird girl Jacinta still wants to move up the ceremony, she thinks that the followers are getting antsy. Daryl wants to teach Laurent something, it’s American baseball, Laurent is pretty solid at it. Isabelle is OK with Laurent being challenged for body and mind but knows that him being skeptical on certain things is healthy. Daryl tells Isabelle that she can make a different choice and her and Laurent can go with Daryl back to America. Isabelle says they can’t leave, everything they did was to keep them going to get to this place, Daryl counters that maybe that is all that it was, something to keep you going. It gets Isabelle thinking.
The next morning Laurent is missing from his room. It looks like he was taken. Jacinta says 2 guys climbed the walls and a guard said one had a face tattoo. Isabelle thinks it’s part of Genet and they are taking him back to Paris. The tide is going to be in soon so it’s time to go fast. Jacinta gives some goon empty bullets for Daryl’s gun, and Emile and Losang try to stop Isabelle and Fallou from going because it’s a damn trap for Daryl.
The ruse is on two fronts. On the road a gas tank was left by the side of the road to be found with footprints that Daryl would track. While back at the Nest, I think it’s called, Sylvie sees a typical Laurent dish being prepared and decides to track the person delivering it. Straight video game side quest, don’t get too far behind that you lose track but don’t get too close they are onto you as the person treks to a far off pillar in the corner of the wall with a door. She goes inside and finds Laurent!
With Daryl the chase leads to a mill, inside, and outnumbered 2 to 1 one of the guys yells get him, Daryl tries to shoot but his gun was given blanks which is no help. Two others turn on Fallou, Isabbelle helps Daryl and realizes that one of them works in the stables at the Nest. Emile is also a traitor and doesn’t help Fallou. After Fallou kills the traitor Emile puts a gun on Fallou until Isabelle and Daryl arrive, they lower their weapons to listen to Emile. Emile tells them that (Genet’s group) didn’t do anything to him, they just had him listen and watch as they tested and killed the others, they are afraid Laurent will leave with Daryl and tomorrow the ceremony and test will begin to prove that Laurent is special and he won’t succumb to the bite and everyone won’t have to worry about dying from the walkers any longer. Emile tries to kill Daryl but Fallou stops him and knocks the gun out of his hand. Isabelle gets it, and doesn’t want to, but she shoots Emile.
Fallou, Isabelle and Daryl get back to the nest, but the tide is in and they have to wait, so Fallou goes to set up a perimeter. Isabelle and Daryl talk, she said she believed in that place, but after they save Laurent they will go with Daryl if his offer still stands, and he shakes his head yes. AND THEY KISS! SOME GOOD KISSING!
The weird chick Jacinta tells Losang that she amended the order and that Daryl would not return. She told the others he is an obstacle to the plan. Losang asks about Isabelle and Fallou, she says they were not a part of the plan. They have no idea how boned they are.
Grim Reaper Carol
Magically transported to Greenland. The plane has a fuel leak, Ash is surprised they survived, he will start working on the repairs as Carol goes to kill some walkers. Ash leaves a flare gun on the seat. Carol offs a couple with the crossbow before a few who died and are under the grass start to pop up and grab Carol. Ash comes to help and the last walker is shot in the head by a sniper. Two people in the distance welcome them to Greenland.
The two have a little research compound by some water in between hills. They were doing research on glacier melts for a PhD and it was supposed to be a 3 month journey. Ash found something to use in the storeroom and went back with one of the girls while Carol stayed back with the cook. The cook gives Carol a drink and then asks to use the crossbow, she loads it and aims it at Carol. She tells Carol she is supposed to kill her but doesn’t want to since she lost the coin toss. The one with Ash, Eun, says they want to save the world and she is first followed by Hanna and they already have picked out baby names, and to forget about Carol because Hanna will kill her.
Hanna wants to get out of this place, it’s killing her, Carol offers to take her with them. Eun was going to kill Carol because Hanna was hesitating but Hanna kills Eun with the crossbow. Hanna asks if she can still go with them and Carol says of course. Hanna gets shot in the neck by a flare from Ash, who obviously didn’t know what happened. And just like that Greenland is dead. That was Ash’s first kill so he does some processing as he flies them to France.
Take a quick nap, wake up in France, just in time to find a good landing spot for the plane. Carol is coming up aces. Carol insists that Ash stay behind with the plane, she is better on her own and has been in the world more than Ash. He finally relents and says they will need fuel, so he will stay behind to get them ready to leave, Carol says if she is not back in 2 weeks don’t keep waiting but he says he won’t leave without her. She leaves him with the crossbow and takes her gun and sets off to Paris. I’m half surprised she isn’t gunned down by someone in one of the buildings just walking out in the open.
Further in the city she hears a vehicle, some soldiers rough up a bum, she takes some fruit and cuts a hole in a bag of grain so she can track the vehicle. Food and a trail on the bad guys in record time. Royal Flush for Carol! It’s Genet’s group which sets up a little food stand for the locals. The locals are in rough shape, fighting over food, and ready to volunteer to go with them without really knowing where they are going. All the while Genet needs more test subjects. Carol tries to hide but is caught by a guard, the leader says she has guts so she can go in the other truck. They take 19 lucky, or maybe unlucky ones.
Carol talks to someone in the truck next to her to get some information. He tells her they are going to Madame Genet who is trying to restart France. His husband Julien is in another truck, they wouldn’t let them ride together and he doesn’t understand why. Inside the compound his truck goes straight and Julien’s truck turns right and he is not sure why.
The soldier tells Genet they have 19 volunteers. Genet is torturing the soldier with a face tattoo for information that he either doesn’t have or isn’t willing to give. He looks rough, and then they put a wine cork opener into his hand. Genet wants information about The nun, the boy, the American, but he isn’t telling her where they are.
